The last two posts have taken this thread from one stupid extreme to the other.

I was only in two bars in Chicago, but when counting Goose Island crap, it appeared ABInbev rules Chi market as much or more than it does here. A legacy of Harry Caray?

There are two kinds of bars here.

The bars jim would hang out in that have a billion TVs and watery beer offerings that sometimes come as a special in a tin bucket full of ice, plus deep fried cheese that comes from a bag that comes from a truck that comes from a Sysco warehouse.

The bars I would hang out in that have zero TVs, a bunch of craft beer, and a hipster dude with a funny moustache making drinks with obscure booze.

If you were in the former, that's probably the takeaway. If you were in the latter you wouldn't come close to anything InBev or MillerCoors. There's nothing wrong with either place. They're just different. But where you choose to go is going to define what's on offer.

33, I was in Chicago a few weeks ago for work, and the company wining and dining us took us to a few bars while we were there. Tavern on the Rush, Paris Cafe (or perhaps Paris Club?), and then an Irish pub down the street from our hotel called Dugan's. All were awesome in their own way.

Drinking a Shake Chocolate Porter right now... Can really really taste the chocolate flavor coming through. Almost like a dessert beer. Delicious.

I've had a Two Roads Route of all Evil tonight (dark porter) and a Riverhorse Belgian Freeze (um... a belgian)... that's the wrong order to drink those beers.

I don't go to bars except once in a blue moon with friends. They cost too much money.

I like Soulard, the hippy bar is my favorite. I hate hate hate the Social Club. God damn it my skin crawls thinking of that place. I also do not like that place wear the ugly girls where the sleezy outfits. How often have I said to myself "Damn, I wish that girls would put a pair of baggy sweats on over that thong". I'll tell you how often - twice. Because that's how many times I've been to that bar. I also like the place by the stadium that has blues bands playing until 3 and serves those big [expletive]' 32 oz PBR's. I do not like Big Daddy's, but it's open late so I have ended up there a time or two.

That should give you an idea of my tastes.

I love Founders Porter. Drinking one now and I've discovered the perfect compliment food for it - Spitz cracked pepper sunflower seeds.
