The Grand Canyon has been full of fog the last few days.

What would you think if you went there for vacation and it was like that?
1) wow! how cool...it's never like this, or
2) man, what a gyp. I finally make it here and this happens...I can't even see it

I think you might think that you would think 2) but in reality your mind would be blown by the awesomeness and beauty.stlouie_lipp wrote:What would you think if you went there for vacation and it was like that?

Re: Amazing Pictures
My cousin always wanted to see the Grand Canyon. It was a bucket list item for her. She won a trip to Las Vegas from a car dealership or something, so being the great guy that I am, I drove up, picked her and her friend up and we went to the canyon.
As we drove, I tried to manage her expectations because I knew what we were going to see when we pulled up.
I was right.
It eventually cleared up just enough to get a sense of the canyon.
It was still really disappointing for her.
Just don't come in the winter, because that's pretty much it a lot of the time. Always clear in the summer.
It's colder than people expect in the winter too. Just because it's Arizona doesn't mean it's not freezing. The canyon is at 7000 feet.
I was up north of the canyon fishing at Lee's Ferry this weekend. Snapped a couple of pics.

Makes perfect sense...still can't help but wonder what my reaction would be. I think it would probably be a little of both. It's not like you got there and it was closed and covered like a pool in winter.lukethedrifter wrote:I think you might think that you would think 2) but in reality your mind would be blown by the awesomeness and beauty.stlouie_lipp wrote:What would you think if you went there for vacation and it was like that?

Re: Amazing Pictures
thrill's top pic is where you'd be totally disappointed. I kind of regret the way I did it with my 8 year old daughter. We pulled up after a really long drive to the first lookout point and I let her hop out and go have a look while I parked the car so I didn't see the initial look on her face. I just wanted her to experience it without feeling like she needed to wait for me or have some response for me.

Re: Amazing Pictures
I would have been pretty bummed with that first thrill pic. The fog ... I'm not sure. I think it would be pretty cool.
btw - we absolutely hit the jackpot when we were in Ireland a couple of years ago. In April, Cliffs of Moher where people famously take pictures of themselves in their rain gear, and we got this:
