My take has been - Blue = Innocence, Red = Guilt. So, Marie is this picture of innocence (really, a banal throw-away character almost), but her kleptomania marks her. Red + Blue = Purple. That may be oversimplifying it, but that's my take on it.

I think the takeaway is, we are in some ways supposed to relate to Marie the most. She's an observer, barely active in the plot at all - really just reacting most of the time. Her banality is sort of a blank slate for anyone to put their own persona on while watching. But she's tainted by sin and crime, just like Walter. Therefore, we have to face the reality that we are all tainted by the same root as Walter.

Again, just my take. But I'm stupid and can't create a cool color spectrum.

Gilligan spoke about the colors on Nerdist last week. Essentially, they represent the personality of the characters.
That guy clearly doesn't understand costume design or p-values/correlations so it's all useless and stuff.
Love the article.

First time I noticed was the Gray Matter party Walt and Skyler attend in one of the first few episodes. You could argue they went way overboard with it, but almost all the people at the party are in some variant of light cottony fabric of cream, khaki, or brown. Walt shows up in an old navy blue double breasted jacket and awful tie IIRC and Skylar has a gaudy (design wise) dark blue dress on, so they stick out like sore thumbs. I didn't think much about it after that until it became clear Marie was a purple freak.
Totally missed your post on the exact same thing, Cole. You got backpaged.

Don't know if it was ever mentioned here but if you've got Netflix, Terriers is a great show. Meant to bring it up a while back, and forgot. It only ran for one season on FX due to ratings, but deserved better. Biggest problem is it really has no hook. It's two regular schmucks working as low-rent private detectives and that's really about it. There's a season-long arc dealing with corruption, but that's really secondary to the characters. Stylistically, it's what you might call daylight-noir. It's almost like an adult Veronica Mars - was even filmed in San Diego. Many of the conventions of noir detective stories, but none of the visual atmospherics you'd typically associate with them. Otherwise - troubled, down on their luck PI's - check. Corrupt government officials - check. Shady businessmen - check. Kidnapping, murder, etc.... Familiar subject matter, but it's kept afloat by the performances and the humor.

Hadn't realized this before, but in Breaking Bad Season 2, Jesse says something Jane and she responds something like "that's so sweet, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit." Also in the episode where Jane OD's, Walt shows Marie earlier in the same episode how to position the baby in case she spits up.

Yep. "Here's how you keep a child alive- frame them with towels (or whatever) so they don't roll over and choke on their own vomit." The same day (next scene, even, maybe?), he's having a beer with Jane's dad and talking about how hard it is to take care of kids.

I don't pick up on a lot of their embedded stuff at first but that's one of the few that I did on the first viewing.

Also, Jane says something in that same episode about seeing the same door again and again (in a Georgia O'Keefe painting). Jesse says it must be boring, but she points out how it's different every time based on tone and mood and artist's intent. The show has shown Walt on each of his three birthdays (50, 51, and 52) coming in through the door of the White house, each time with different intentions. I have no idea if it was on purpose but it's fun to see unfold. At 50, he's coming in to a birthday party with all of his friends and family. 52 was the most recent episode, which was a vastly different circumstance.

Just how many decades does Erin Andrews set back the cause of women in sports broadcasting here?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that we shouldn't blame this on Erin Andrews.

Well, she's one of the two people who look like they're filming the start of a Playboy video. I guess The Hollywood Reporter and Fox take part of the blame, but man, that video is bad.
