The 12th incarnation of the Doctor will be revealed in a live show Simulcast on BBC and BBC America tomorrow. 2pm Eastern. This year is the 50th anniversary year for the show.
Can't wait.

Oh, not you too, JC. I like Richard Ayoade, and from what I understand he's an excellent writer and director, but he's never demonstrated the acting range necessary to play the Doctor. I enjoy the IT Crowd as much as the next guy, but if we're getting one of them, make it Chris O'Dowd.JCShutout wrote:Came here just to post this. I hope, if its a guy, that its Richard Ayoade. I figured he could mix his IT Crowd and Darkplace (one of my favorite shows) characters and come up with a funny doctor. Tennant-esk in some verbal aspects, though more subdued and awkward.redbirdjazzz wrote:Oh, not you too, JC. At least the new guy is Scottish. That gets a plus from me. Other than that, I don't know anything about him. (Other than his role in the Pompeii ep)

He's got an Oscar for short film directing, among various acting awards, so he's got a definite pedigree coming in. He's also the second oldest (only a couple months younger than Hartnell) ever to play the role, following directly after the youngest, so that should be interesting too. He wasn't my first choice (Peter Serafinowicz), and I've only seen him in Fires of Pompeii as well, but I'm excited.JCShutout wrote:I figured he could mix his IT Crowd and Darkplace (one of my favorite shows) characters and come up with a funny doctor. A new direction for the show for sure. I look forward to it. I loved Matt Smith, but he was a little too zany for me sometimes, plus all the potential romance with the companions was getting old. Capaldi has a definite Harnell/Pertwee look to him. Can’t wait to see how he will play the role.redbirdjazzz wrote:He's got an Oscar for short film directing, among various acting awards, so he's got a definite pedigree coming in. I liked Tennant better than Smith, but I enjoyed Smith's zaniness. They did a nice job of building Smith a TARDIS to match his style. Sort of a Dr. Who Seuss.wart57 wrote:A new direction for the show for sure. I look forward to it. I'm excited for the new guy. I agree that the love interest between companion(s) and Doctor was a bit lame. I didn't really like Rose much, and Martha could have been awesome, if every B storyline wasn't about her pining for the Doctor. She was brilliant and sassy. I liked the Ponds and Donna the best of the newest incarnation of companions. I loved River Song. She (the character) would have made a great doctor herself.
/I haven't seen the post-Pond era because it isn't free on Amazon Prime yet. So I haven't seen Clara except in season 7, ep 1 where... Anyone else tear up during the end of the Van Gogh ep?
I haven't seen much of the older Who, tried a few random eps (whatever is free on Amazon Prime). Hard to watch in this age of computer graphics.

Clara is really good. You may not like the TARDIS console room Matt had during the Clara eppisodes.

I love it as ir kind of harkens back to the old ere.
I still love the classic series, poor SFX and all. The storys were just so good.

Re: TV Thread - beware, [expletive] can get spoilery
I'm a huge Matt Smith fan because he was the Doctor when I started watching (I'm a recent adopter). Although, I went back and started watching from the pilot of the reboot, but Eccleston was a bit too much for me. The writing was kind of poor too. So I skipped ahead to the Tennant episodes but was real "meh" about them, too. I know most Who fans will hurl rocks at me for saying that, but I just didn't care for him. Don't know why. So then I went head in with Smith and loved it. Plus, Amy Pond was just so...yeah, I could watch her all day. So, there was that too.
Also, teared up at the end of Angels Take Manhattan. The Van Gogh episode was one of the best things I've ever seen on TV.
