How much of it is beer tasting better because you are in the woods?lukethedrifter wrote:Scratch Brewery in Ava, Il -popeye card's former neck of the woods, I believe- is fantastic. After first hearing about it, I had my concerns that it was going to be some sort of hippie beer place. After all, they have used mushrooms in one of their beers. And it's pretty much in the woods.

Pabst Blue Ribbon. Bought a 12 tonight, have had 3, and I like it. Haven't had one since I was drinking the 24 ouncers at the Oyster Bar or whatever. Good quality product.

While up in Chicago I grabbed a six-pack of dogfish head 60 day ipa since its not available in STL. While it was a decent ipa, I've had much better.

It's famous for being one of the first quality craft brews in the country. Dogfish Head has gone on to lead the American craft beer renaissance and you can thank them and Sierra Nevada for all of the great microbrews you enjoy now. If you can find it, try the 90 minute or 120, just to see how hoppy something can be and still be a palatably balanced beer. I've moved away from American IPAs for the last few years because I over did it in '06 and '07, but I've thought of going back to them this summer.cardinalkarp wrote:While up in Chicago I grabbed a six-pack of dogfish head 60 day ipa since its not available in STL. Re: The Beer Thread
I couldn't agree more with that article. St. Louis' recent craft beer explosion is a perfect example. The first and most famous products most of them put out were good beers but considerably over-hopped. Because to the masses, that's what "craft beer" means- way too much hops. Less hoppy styles like porters, stouts, and some bocks are seen as winter-only, while the other stuff dominates the rest of the year.

I receommend this one:

Probably can't get it many places outside of Iowa, although they are expanding their delivery area.
