My mother is visiting which means "American Idol" is on my TV. I don't get it. Why is this show so popular? Why do people like watching crappy singers do crappy karaoke?

So, quite the Game of Thrones last night! Probably the 2nd best episode to Baelor.
[SHOW]
Can't believe Lord Commander Mormont goes like that. Stabbed in the back... Not right. Jon Snow might have something to say about that I think.

Jamie's cut off hand hanging around his neck? I love it. I don't feel bad for him.

Love Margery. I still can't make her. And I love that. Great character.

Not sure what to make of Bran's dreams... I imagine their important since they get time in every episode. But, I'm having trouble figuring them out.

Dany with an amazing display of tact and power. Gaining an army, the right way. And without costing her a dragon. Speaking of Dragons, how awesome was that? Dany now looks like the power in this game.

I'd say it was one of the best, but that show is so damned good that it's impossible to rank them. Pretty much any time Dany shows off her strengths (vagueness to avoid spoilers, hooray!), it's a great episode.

The early scene with Varys and the Imp was pretty badass also.

Totally agree about Margaery. And even Old Lady Tyrell is a great character. I love that she called out how stupid their sigil is, because it is.

I almost wish we'd get more time with the Night's Watch crew because other than Jon Snow, they all bleed together. And I'm sure it's not like that in the books (which I haven't read). That particular character that you mentioned is no doubt a badass but we've gotten such little character development with him that the scene wasn't as effective as it could have been.

But I can't stress enough... that's the only gripe I have with the whole show. This season is shaping up as the best yet.

No more Game of Thrones comments, oh well...

Mad Men this week. I may have missed some subtext, but was it just the darkest portrayal of the 60's I've seen?
[SHOW]
I mean, women and blacks dumped on from start to finish. Don gets lippy w/ his wife over a kissing scene in her soap opera, and then goes to bang his mistress (who's his friends wife)... Peggy lost a friend.
Don's secretary goes from a scared, but smart and strong, black working woman to a straight up Uncle Tom. Joan is just lost, a partner in name only. Peggy climbing the corporate ladder is losing her friends...

Tough times for everyone I guess.

I've given up trying to talk about GoT here. The AV Club GoT community is more engaged.

I find it tiresome to talk about GoT here since we're apparently expected to use spoiler tags even after an episode runs.
