Just depends on your definition of fine dining. The food may not be considered fine but the airbrushed women sure were!

Never heard of it, but googling "St Louis Social house" linked me to the club I assume you're talking about. The Yelp review page is pretty fun to read. Never seen so many 1 star reviews.
Rather have my tongue hole-punched repeatedly then go back to this hell-hole.

If this is the place it's the worst place on earth.

M and I ate at a really terrific old school steak and seafood place in DeSoto, Il called Tom's Place. I thought I hadn't heard of it until this guy started talking about how it was a mobster hangout back in the 20s and 30s. I had, just didn't know it was such a cool place with really good food.

I need to check out that place. Speaking of old school steak and seafood places in southern IL, I'm a huge fan of Andria's, http://www.andrias.com/menu.html.lukethedrifter wrote:M and I ate at a really terrific old school steak and seafood place in DeSoto, Il called Tom's Place. It's nearly a two hour drive but you can make an afternoon/evening of it by eating lunch in nearby Murphysboro at 17th St Bar and Grill for bbq then take a hike through the Little Grand Canyon then up to Tom's Place for dinner like we did. Stayed about a half hour away at a b&b type inn in Anna but Carbondale is much closer with plenty of places to stay. Or drive home the 2 hours with steak and wine in your belly.

Re: rant: fine dining
Went to the new popular restaurant Olio. We enjoyed it....but if people are calling it overrated, that sentiment is understandable.
I didn't see a lot of things that jumped off the menu at me. If you want meat, you have to get it in a sandwich or expensive appetizer-ish tray of meat and cheese slices.
We had the crab salad on toast (tartine?) and it was ok in a schnucks deli-ish kind of way. Light on crab meat.
The scallop dish was pretty good- but could have used something to accompany. The winner was the Speck, a fancy ham sandwich, but again, I thought it could have used more meat. See the theme - they consider their meat a rare delicacy.
I was not a fan of the beer choices for price and mostly styles I don't care for/uppity import brands. Decided upon a delicious black IPA - Ruhstaller -Capt.) though it cost $13 (22oz) or $9.5 pint equivalent.
Check out the beer menu -fonts etc. http://oliostl.com/menu_beer.html
- If I were in a bad mood/already buzzed, or mildy dyslexic I might just give up drinking beer.
Again, I enjoyed it overall. Mainly because the food is decent enough, and the great setting-bordering on a work of art. And your lady friend(s) will love it.
