And Rolen played well during that time as well. Both hurting their former team.

Are labrum injuries the death sentence for hitters as they are for pitchers?

Wishing Luddy a speedy recovery. Always been a fan of his, even as a Red.

Marlins sent 3B Zack Cox outright to Double-A Jacksonville.
Cox was a first-round pick of the Cardinals in 2010, so it says a lot about his prospect status that he was able to pass through waivers unclaimed. The 23-year-old batted just .254/.301/.409 with 10 homers between Double- and Triple-A last season.

I read recently, I think it was on SB Nation, that the Cardinal organization seems to have a real knack for knowing which players to hold on to, and especially which hitters. Think about the young hitters we've given away in trades--Cox, Daric Barton, Brett Wallace, and yup, Colby Rasmus. Hitters and pitchers, go back a decade or so and probably the only trade that we really regret is Dan Haren.

How long is Luddy expected out for? That seems like he'll be out way longer then a few weeks like was originally expected.

I agree with you entirely, our management has a very good track record on keeping the right prospects and trading the wrong ones. Only a few exceptions I can think of where we probably would've been better off keeping the prospect:Vidor wrote:I read recently, I think it was on SB Nation, that the Cardinal organization seems to have a real knack for knowing which players to hold on to, and especially which hitters. -Covelli Crisp (ship of fools!) for Chuck Finley (We really needed a starter that year, and Finley did pretty well for us. I think we were trying to convince him to come back for another season but he decided to retire. Crisp has only been a fringe starting outfielder overall for his career, so not that huge of a loss)
-Chris Perez for Mark DeRosa (in fairness, this would've been a fine deadline deal if DeRosa hadn't messed up his wrist the first week after the trade, while Perez has been a good but pretty replaceable reliever)
-Luke Gregerson (traded for Khalil Greene. Oops)

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Mulder for Haren qualifies as giving up the wrong prospect. But it would've been a fine deal since Mulder's 2005 season was good, if he didn't get hurt and no longer be able to pitch effectively.
