The Reds will have to do without Luddy for a few weeks since he has a separated shoulder.

If you saw the replay it's hard to think that he won't be on the DL.

Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) is expected to miss the next three months.
Ludwick damaged the labrum in his right shoulder in Monday's season-opener against the Angels and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday. It's a tough blow for the Reds, who will use Chris Heisey in left field in Ludwick's absence. Derrick Robinson is likely to be called up from the minors to add some outfield depth.

I like Ludwick, and I never wish for injuries to players (well, I'm okay with A-Rod being down), but it's hard to get excited about the Reds missing a "key" component to the season for at least the first half of the year. I got excited when Votto went down thinking they'd collapse. They had like a .970 winning percentage. I expect the Reds to be 75-6 while Ludwick is out.

Seriously. I realize that it comes off as fanboy homer talk to call the Reds "lucky", because they had a very solid team last year--but the Reds just took off and left us last year while Votto was on the DL, and it was mostly because Ryan Ludwick decided to go on his biggest hitting tear since he was a Cardinal. This a guy who looked like he was finished with Pittsburgh.
