How bad? Well, they are going to finish February sweeps FIFTH, behind the other three broadcast networks and Univision. And the highest-rated show on NBC was...
...wait for it....
Saturday Night Live.
Obviously low ratings are bad for the business side of NBC. But simply at TV watchers, should we really care what their ratings are as long as they don't cancel the shows we like? I don't really care if the masses tune in for American Idol and the Bachelor and that dancing show and CSI and whatever else. The broadcast networks can't toe the edgy lines that the top cable shows can.
NBC has still come out with some of the better shows of the last decade. Outside of that, I'm not sure why I should care that Hawaii Five O is drawing more viewers than Smash (I assume).

But they are cancelling shows we like. 30 Rock, Community is probably gone, Parks and Rec won't go but that's because if that goes they don't have enough shows to fill their schedule.

30 Rock ran it's course, as did the Office.
Personally, I won't miss Community.
Parks and Rec is probably going to run it's course soon.
But are the ratings even about these sitcoms at all? Reality and whodunit shows drive the ratings.

That's a great point and most of those shows are terrible. So since I've basically given up on network tv already, I guess I shouldn't concern myself with network ratings.

I do feel bad for people without cable. But cable networks are throttling the broadcast networks for quality in both drama and comedy. But again, we can't expect the broadcast networks to have that same edge. So they're stuck with CSI's and singing contests.
I gave Archer about 4 episodes a few months back and I enjoyed it, but does it progress from that into something better? I didn't see anything that separated it in a significant way from Family Guy or Robot Chicken. People talk about it like it's genius, but I though it seemed to rely a lot on shock value.

I think Archer is far funnier than Family Guy has been since its first couple seasons. It does get better after the first few episodes, and there is some amount of character development and continuity.
