Re: The Beer Thread
Civil Life Brown has become a mainstay beer for me when dinining out at finer establishments.

Wow. I'm slow. I totally didn't catch that Mac wanted to steal my Ommegang chalices.Swirls wrote:You're welcome to come upstate to Oswego, but you'll have quite a bit of snow to drive through on your way up. I drove down to Poughkeepsie Saturday afternoon in the snowstorm, and am back at work today. It's doable. We're currently sporting about 16-18" of snow, with more projected every day until pretty much April.Maclowery wrote:What's your home address, and is your apartment on the first level of the building?

Re: The Beer Thread
Ha ha, I was wondering if that one slipped past you!
We are finally almost done with our barrels of winter ale. My manager is so tired of having Peak Organic winter ale go unsold (because it's kind of gross), that he let me sit down with him and match him pint for pint until 445am last night just to try to get the barrel to kick. Now he wants to do an IPA push, so our four rotating taps are all gonna be IPAs. Bummer for me, as I am not an IPA guy, but it's definitely gonna be a hit with customers. Right now we have Lagunitas' and Red Hook's tapped, and I guess our other two will be east coast breweries. Neat.

Periodic Table of Beer Styles
Now, your GRB homework is to try at least 10 beers of each style by different brewers - rank them 1 to 10, and then rank them over all 1 to 650.
1 being best.
Should take Radbird at least a week.

Is it wrong to have a drink at six o'clock in the morning if you just had a long night shift and you're going straight to bed?
That's still wrong, isn't it?

Re: The Beer Thread
No, during plant outages on nights a local bar up here secretly opens up at 5:30am to let the night crew drink after work. The lock the front door and close all the curtains, but you can drive by at 6:00am and there are like 75 cars parked around the building and music blaring inside. The back door, however, is left wide open for people to walk in, have a few beers, and eat a ham/egg/cheese bagel if they want. I myself went many many times last year during our outage.Vidor wrote:Is it wrong to have a drink at six o'clock in the morning if you just had a long night shift and you're going straight to bed?

I'm sure the local fuzz knows about it, but they turn a blind eye since it only occurs for a month or so during plant outages, and they know the people participating just finished working a 12 hour shift and need a beer or three.
EDIT: Just make sure that if you do it during the week, you aren't waving to the bus driver while outside drinking a beer when your kid hops on the bus. I guess what would make the scene worse is if your kid happened to have a black eye from hockey practice or something.

Re: The Beer Thread
Looking at that periodic table, every single style I like best- dubbel, doppelbock, eisbock, schwarzbier, oatmeal stout, dunkelweizen- is described as low hop profile.
Here's a link to the full chart, since the image is too ginormous to embed:
