I know they're cute as hell, and great w/ kids, right?
Is the drooling a flatulence really that bad?

Thinking of getting a pup, wife wants a Golden, I don't want a dog that big or hairy.

Fat Bulldog has a couple English Bulldogs I believe. I have a French Bulldog & drool or flatulence is not a problem (the flatulence is all in what you feed them). I can't speak for the English BD though. I've heard if you raise them around kids they're great. Ours hasn't been around kids at all so I probably wouldn't start sticking him around them w/o close supervision.

We love him though, he's an awesome little dog (French Bulldogs only weigh about 30 lbs. but they are stocky little guys). He's got a great personality & is an absolute riot (but chills out as well). They don't need very much exercise at all but you must remember that all bulldogs are inside dogs, they are VERY susceptible to heat stroke & don't like the cold weather either.

The winter is fine (actually cold is better than the heat), so as long as you plan on them being an inside dog you wouldn't have any issues. The dog would LOVE summer & fall up there though. And I'm not saying they don't like the heat, in fact ours will go out on the deck & sunbathe for hours if you let him. Problem is that they'll just sit out there and overheat.

There's a number of different types of bulldogs. Everything from the American (which are taller & can get upwards of 80 to 90lbs), to French (which are the smallest & max out at probably 35lbs), and the English/Old English (which can vary a ton & weigh up to 80 or 90 themselves). Most of those weights are for males so obviously the females will typically weigh less. Shedding isn't a major issue w/ their short hair but that doesn't mean they don't shed because they still do. Also, I'm sure you're aware they can be a bit pricey because the complications in breeding (I believe most are all born by cesarean) and unfortunately they tend to have a little bit shorter lifespans than most other dogs.

They are awesome and great with kids if you have kids around when they are puppies. Just have to be careful about exercise and weather. They don't do either very well. Also, can be high maintenance.
