Astros fire bench coach Joe Pettini

Not surprisingly new Astros manager Bo Porter wants to assemble his own coaching staff and Houston has parted ways with bench coach Joe Pettini, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
Pettini spent 10 years as Tony La Russa’s bench coach in St. Louis, where he worked with current Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow, and when La Russa retired Luhnow hired Pettini to join then-manager Brad Mills‘ staff.
It’ll be interesting to see if returning to the Cardinals is an option for Pettini now that La Russa is gone.

What was the reason that Pettini wasn't retained as bench coach for this season anyways? You'd think that having a rookie manager this year they'd have wanted to keep a veteran bench coach like Pettini, instead of having a rookie manager and a rookie bench coach(who was assistant hitting coach prior to that).

'We would have been awesome, except for that damn bench coach.'

Chris Duncan on the road to recovery from having a brain tumor removed.

I know we've talked about how great our organization was with Holliday's family situation during the NLCS. This article reaffirms the notion that our organization is top notch off the field as well as on the field.

...David Pratt, one of the Cardinals' owners, quickly made his private plane available to fly the Duncans to Duke the day after the tumor was detected.
"Thank God David Pratt picked us up and took us down there,'' Duncan said. "They're so advanced at Duke, it's unbelievable. I feel so lucky I got a chance to go there.''

Wow, I thought that was a typo or something. Two family members with brain tumors - yikes.

Strauss mentioned in his chat that Duncan's contract expires on Oct. 31. I wish they'd renew it another year. Even if he'll never coach again, the organization should help Dave Duncan out.

if I didn't miss something the article did not refer to a brain tumor but a tumor on (in?) his head.Felix The Cat wrote:Wow, I thought that was a typo or something. Two family members with brain tumors - yikes.
point being they seemed to make a point of not calling it a brain tumor.
I dunno.

And he's optimistic about the future as he battles back from surgery he had recently to remove most of a brain tumor.
bad"They took out 95 percent of the tumor, there was a little bit left. They said most of the tumor was Stage 2 cancer, there was a little piece that was a Stage 4 — but that was a small piece of it.''
Stage 2 is less severe than Stage 4, and Duncan said that the portion of tumor that remains will be attacked with radiation and chemotherapy.
