[SHOW]
What a bunch of horse [expletive]. This show is so poorly written the only reason I stuck around because Saul is awesome, just an honest, caring, moral guy who is dedicated to his job and loves his wife. I really like Claire Danes from Stardust and Lt. Winters, but I couldn't believe their characters - not sure how they won best actor and actress. I thought I was watching the worst scenes of Pearl Harbor, then Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and then the Sum of All Fears. I was expecting some kind of Rear Window Vibe where the two main characters would never interact - maybe they would meet for the first time at the finale of season 3 or something, but then they start [expletive] each other mid season, followed by this awkward, cringe inducing "I think you're a terrorist" scene on back porch of a cabin.

I am convinced this show only won the emmy because the emmy voters have a major liberal slant, and it has anti-war points that tap the political euphoria part of their brain, like they would say 'it says a lot about the war on terror' rather than just taking it as a straight up TV show.

If Breaking Bad S4 and Homeland S1 were at the bottom of a pile in football fighting for the ball, Breaking Bad would be giving Homeland the business so bad Homeland would feel it in the past and would create an alternate reality where Homeland was placed on the IR in the preseason. This analogy, while absolutely convoluted to the point of nonsense, is more effective at making a point than the entire first season of Homeland was at compelling story-telling.

And I like Homeland.
But I like it for what it is, like the 102nd best show on tv.
Is it really that different than The Killing?
Red Herring here, red herring there.

I think you're selling it short, though I've already expressed my own misgivings about it. I don't really see the liberal angle either, or how you interpret it as anti-war. It takes for granted the idea that we're being infiltrated by Islamic terrorists.

The cabin episode is praised by people I otherwise respect and agree with, but I agree it's overrated. Probably the low point of the show so far.

I have no idea where you all find the time to watch all the tv that you apparently watch.

I was of that mindset until I got the Roku. I rarely watched any TV.

Because if I happened to watch something that looked promising, I could never guarantee I would be available that same time next week. And if I was, I never remembered what time or what channel. So instead of watching decent television, I would flip thru channels for a while and give up on TV.

With Roku (or apple tv, boxee, etc) you can just watch entire seasons, at your leisure. If I have insomnia, I can watch 4 episodes of Mad Men. If I have 30 minutes to kill before a meeting, I can watch an episode of whatever. Basically, I am the appointment, not the television show.

And what I really like about streaming tv shows, as opposed to movies, is there is always a stopping point, and there is (usually) always another episode.

And I know DVR has some of this functionality, but right now I am watching Fringe from the first season. I can watch any show, from any time, almost.

So basically what I am saying is, I thought TV was mostly stupid until I could tailor TV to my schedule.

Me either. Following sports takes up more than enough of my time already.

It doesn't really take that much time. I probably watch 4-5 shows at any given time. 3 to 4 hour long dramas, plus a comedy or two and sometimes the Daily Show. The better shows now run for about 13 weeks at different times of the year and they're gone. I also make time for it to some extent, because I'm a fan. I think fictional TV programming has been of a higher quality than mainstream movies for the past 10-15 years.
