Guinness is good any time of the year, but only on draft and only poured with a bartender than knows what they are doing. It's not rocket science, but you have to follow a few steps and take your time or you [expletive] it up. Pisses me off when they just open the tap and fill the glass up and give it to me.lukethedrifter wrote:Guinness is certainly light enough for a summer beer. A few of those others I might not want to drink on a hot day while sitting outside. At least not regularly. Imperials for sure. At night, I'm in.

I got one at some bar in Soulard that didn't even have a nitro tap. What a mess! Not even a reasonably attractive barkeep with massive cleavage could make it worth drinking.jim wrote:Guinness is good any time of the year, but only on draft and only poured with a bartender than knows what they are doing. Again, not saying I know anything about seizure medicine though.

(St. Louis, MO) – Schlafly Beer Co-Founder and CEO, Dan Kopman, joined a live chat hosted by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Evan Benn on Friday. Kopman provided a candid look behind the company going into 2013 and beyond…

We are exploring the possibility of opening a small brewhouse, pub and store in Chciago. We are not close to making this a reality but it is a way in which we believe we could introduce Schlafly Beer to Chicago. We will keep you posted. (The company does not currently sell beer in Chicago).

HELL YES. Brewery Ommegang (Cooperstown, NY), was already my favorite craft brewery in the nation, followed by Schlafly and Wolaver's (Middlebury, VT). But after seeing this, it just separated itself from the pack a little bit more.
Ommegang is usually $5 a pint up here, sometimes more, so $8.50 for a 25oz bottle sounds just about right.

Nantahala Trail Magic Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout
Purchased this on trip to Smokies last spring and let it age -then popped it open the other night.
It was just ok -not really what I was thirsty for. Some of the barley wines and heavy stouts - you really have to be prepped to drink them and in a sipping mood. They aren't beerlike. If going with that genre - North Coast's Old Rasputin is about the best I've tried. Though when I'm in mood for heavier -sweet beer - give me a good scotch ale or brown ale. Like Founders Dirty Bastard.
And for those that like to center their travels around beer. The western NC area has a lot to offer.

I beginning to think life after retirement in Cooperstown would be a good choice. Do they have a Walmart I could be a greeter at?Swirls wrote:
