I'm also ostensibly rereading Under the Volcano at the same time, because I'm an idiot.

Re: Book thread
I finished Three Nights in August last week.
It was OK. Nothing earth shattering or new. Nothing a hardcore baseball junky didn't know.
La Russa thought Drew was a slacker. Though Canseco was juicing, not McGwire. No big secrets there.
Moved on to Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles. About half way through, and loving it. Pretty eery.

Elephant and Piggie Peer Into the Void
A tribute to the most existentially terrifying kids’ book ever written.

It sounds pretty awesome, might have to pick that up.pioneer98 wrote:Anyone read this one yet:
Baseball's Starry Night: Reliving Major League Baseball's 2011 Wild Card Night of Shock and Awe
As far as "Elephant and Piggie" as I noted above, we got that book for our preschooler. She laughed her ass off at "BANANA!" and did not seem to twig to any questions about the meaning of existence.

I hope that is good, because I am totally going to buy it.
And following that Amazon link led me to this book, which I also may have to buy:
http://www.amazon.com/You-Stink-Basebal ... pd_sim_b_3You Stink!: Major League Baseball's Terrible Teams and Pathetic Players
I hope they talk about the 1899 Spiders (who were gutted in order to beef up the St. Louis Cardinals, BTW).

Here is a letter that Brandon Sanderson put on his Facebook page re: Wheel of Time. I admit I got a lil teary eyed a bit... I grew up on the series, and now it's officially over.
Spoilered for length.

Re: Book thread
Hey, I read that earlier today also. Good day for long series continuing; Jim Butcher also announced he'd turn in his final manuscript for his latest Dresden Files book. If you are unaware of Butcher or the Dresden Files, it's basically corny pulp detective stuff, featuring a lead character who is also a wizard in Chicago. It's very entertaining.
I really like Sanderson and his friendliness to fans. I still remember emailing him regarding Elantris way back when it was released. He emailed me back a specific, nice response not a few hours later. It was awesome. Now if only he put some cussing and sex in his books. Silly PG fantasy.
