I went to school with a girl whose last name was "Lear".
Her parents named her "Crystal Shanda".

She should legally be allowed to punch them in the mouth daily.Socnorb11 wrote:I went to school with a girl whose last name was "Lear".

My mom worked with a girl who named her twin boys "Oranjelo" and "Lamonjelo" because she couldn't think of appropriate names and there happened to be plates of orange jello and lemon jello in the room.

Not saying that this is entirely wrong in your case, but: http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/names.aspSwirls wrote:My mom worked with a girl who named her twin boys "Oranjelo" and "Lamonjelo" because she couldn't think of appropriate names and there happened to be plates of orange jello and lemon jello in the room.

I can't vouch for the apocryphal names I've been told but I have seen more than a few Nauticas and the like.JackofDiamonds wrote:Not saying that this is entirely wrong in your case, but: http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/names.aspSwirls wrote:My mom worked with a girl who named her twin boys "Oranjelo" and "Lamonjelo" because she couldn't think of appropriate names and there happened to be plates of orange jello and lemon jello in the room.

Old-style names don't bother me as much as invented goofy hipster names. Seamus is a lot better than "Indie".
I floated the names Beatrice and Miranda, from different Shakespeare plays, for our daughter. They both got shot down so we went with a regular old family name.
I was born in the early 1970s. One of my classes in high school had three Michaels and four Jennifers.

Re: Kid Names
I knew a hippie-ish, heavy RPG-playing couple who named their girl Orchid. This could actually be a pretty name for a girl in the right situation, I guess, but the couple were very nerdy and very out of shape, and that girl is very likely to be wearing sweaters with sequin dragons, thick rim glasses, and receive a lot of teasing in her formative years.
I wish them all the best.
