Ironically, that guy in the middle has a last name of Beard.

By the early 80's, ZZ Top and SRV (who is oddly absent from this tournament) were the only ones keeping the blues in rock.

We discussed SRV and consensus was that he was more legitimate as a solo act. Double Trouble was a great band, but really, everyone was there to watch and listen to Stevie.

Of course, I also argued that if you left out SRV and DT, you had to leave out Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Springstein.

I guess Thrill didn't agree, and there's definitly some gray area there. It was one of the reasons I fought pretty hard to get ZZ Top in this. They are the only band in there that represents the revival of Blues/Rock in the 80's.

When other bands were going toward the keytar, Top and SRV were redefining blues rock and making that pentatonic scale go places it had never seen.

So, vote for the Clash as some auditory herbal enhancement drug (a la Thrill and Keenan), or vote for ZZ Top because you respect the roots of Rock 'n Roll and recognize that rock should be fun to listen to.

I think that's a pretty good description of what's going on Clement. Not much that can be done about it. I couldn't name any Clash songs other than London Calling, and it's not good enough to inspire me to vote for them.

So how do you know if you like ZZ better if you only know one Clash song? This seems to be a reoccurring problem in this tourney, people voting for one band because they're unfamiliar with the other. I don't want to sound like a music elitist, but I'm familiar with every band in this tourney, and I feel confident that I can rank them fairly accordingly to my tastes... I'm not so sure everyone here can say the same thing.

Now if this was a basketball tourney, where you're just guessing who you think would win, not knowing every team would be fine. But the question is, what band do you like more - that question requires at least a basic knowledge of BOTH bands. I understand that some people never took the time to become familiar with a band because they didn't like the first few songs they heard, but that's not really giving that band a fair chance (IMO). It would be like someone going to a Cardinal's game, having a bad time, and then saying "I hate the Cardinals".
