Don't like Negro Modelo, LOVE NG/Schlafly, and also for a lighter mass produced beers I prefer the Mexican beers over others.lukethedrifter wrote:Maybe cuz you used to tell us about your love for New Glarus and Schlafly etc and now you're raving about super light Mexican beers. Does Negro Modelo come in 4packs? No, then it must be good.jim wrote:
How can you say someone is kidding themselves about their preference for beer taste?

Popular around Indy, all the breweries around here make em cause they are pretty similar to a Bud Light or Miller Light. Little Kings would be a popular example.G. Keenan wrote:Corona, Pacifico, Tecate, Modelo Especial are all perfectly fine cheap beers. However none of them are any better than PBR, High Life, Bud, Busch, et. al. You're kidding yourself if you believe otherwise.
Also, vinsanity, what are these "cream ales" you're talking about?
But define any better? I don't think those Mexican beers you mentioned are some sort of top shelf award winning brew, but I prefer them to the others you've mentioned. They're all the same lager type of beer, but there's something about the Mexican beers I prefer. There's a noticeable difference.

I think you, and Jim, have a preference for them at the moment because you've begun drinking them relatively recently. That is absolutely fine. Everyone likes trying new beers of all quality levels and has new favorites all the time.vinsanity wrote:Popular around Indy, all the breweries around here make em cause they are pretty similar to a Bud Light or Miller Light. But when you start saying they taste better and are less watery and whatnot I'm really skeptical. In a blind taste test I think you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between Tecate and Hamms, or Modelo and PBR. Take Bud Light, Miller Lite, etc. out of the conversation because the Mexican beers we're talking about here are not light beers like those.

Whatever you want. I like those Mexican beers too. I'm just saying that cheap Mexican beer isn't objectively any better than cheap American beer. I don't think jim and vin shouldn't enjoy those beers, I'm saying they aren't really any less watery, dirty, or whatever adjectives describe cheap American beer.Fat_Bulldog wrote:Geen,

Re: The Beer Thread
I'll try it. PBR is actually a beer you might be right about with Modelo/Tecate - but no way will I make the mistake between Bud/Modelo or MGD/Modelo. Hamms I have no idea, I haven't had a Hamm's beer is a long time. But I'll guarantee you that I will tell the difference between any of those beers you talked about and Corona.G. You're probably right about Corona. In fact it probably doesn't belong in the same category as Tecate and Modelo. I haven't bought any in a while but isn't Corona like $8 or $9 for a six-pack?jim wrote:I'll try it. Ok, after all the rave about yuengling on here I tried it while I was in Miami and wasn't all that impressed. I may have gotten a bad batch or something but it had that skunky beer taste that is common among beers that come in green bottles.

I've always thought cheap Mexican beers were bland and pretty indistinguishable from our cheap, and not so cheap, bland beers.

I first had a Corona in 1986 at S Padre Island and it wasn't because it was delicious.Richie Allen wrote:I've always thought cheap Mexican beers were bland and pretty indistinguishable from our cheap, and not so cheap, bland beers.
