Probably because according to doctors and their "science" if you have like 5 beers a week that's alcohol abuse.
Losers. I mean 5 beers a day is cool...right?
Beer doesn't count. Would you worry if you drank 5 glasses of water a day?
Beer not only counts, but it's also good for you. I drink about 6 beers immediately after a bike race to recover.

I once ran a 10k basically still drunk from the night before. Granted an old lady beat me, but I finished.

Beer goggles will do that, but at least you could still perform.

Beer is a great recovery drink. That's old school .. the hipsters are eating power bars before and drinking gatorade replinish after. I'm a snickers/beer kind of guy.

Back to beer .. I have found my go to generic beer has gravitated toward Corona. I started drinking a ton of it last year when i was playing ball, we always went out for a few after the game and it seemed like half the guys on the team drank it. It was really good after a ball game on a hot summer day, and I just kept drinking it through the winter. I always have Corona in my fridge, along with 2-3 other brands.

I think I like corona, and most Mexican beers, better than most of the domestic crap. Mexican beers have a very light taste to it, but it doesn't taste as generic and watered down as the domestic crap. They seem crisp, but light and a great summer beer.

I will drink Bud Light, but it drives me nuts when my friends go to microbrews and get the 'cream ales' which are just expensive Bud Lights. I was never that in to more bitter beers (IPA's and the like) but it's grown on me so much that I almost can't stand an "expensive" bud light or cream ale. Gimme something with flavor.

Corona tastes like urine most of the time when I try it. I think it's because it goes skunky very easily. Tecate is my go-to Mexican beer.

I agree with you on the Mexican brews. Right now in my fridge:
Corona
Tecate
Modelo Especial
Budweiser
Murphys Irish Red

Corona, Pacifico, Tecate, Modelo Especial are all perfectly fine cheap beers. However none of them are any better than PBR, High Life, Bud, Busch, et. al. You're kidding yourself if you believe otherwise.

Also, vinsanity, what are these "cream ales" you're talking about?

To me they are much better. They aren't as watery as most of those, Busch tastes dirty to me and I can't drink more than one at a time and Bud is sweeter and I don't like it as much when it's hot (but I think Bud is a fine beer and almost always have it stocked). Modelo and Tecate are very crisp and clean beers without being watery like PBR. High Life just isn't very good, neither is Busch. They have flavor it's just like dirty water, which I do not like.

How can you say someone is kidding themselves about their preference for beer taste?

Maybe cuz you used to tell us about your love for New Glarus and Schlafly etc and now you're raving about super light Mexican beers. Does Negro Modelo come in 4packs? No, then it must be good.
