About 5 minutes into the most recent episode I could no longer take Rick and Shane staring glassy-eyed into space for minutes on end, Carl being annoying, and Lori's stupid face. It's the same episode every time and I no longer care whether any of them live or die.
And then Carl shot Shane when he somehow came back from the dead. And that was after thinking about killing his own dad. It redeemed itself... although most of the conflict seems to have died. Literally.
I'm not clear on that. It seemed as if he was thinking about shooting Rick, but I wonder if he just didn't see Shane get up before we did. And perhaps it was poorly staged, like a famous scene in Breaking Bad that caused similar confusion.
I thought he was going to shoot him, but there seems to be some debate about it - here's a whole thread on it:
That would have been the easy thing to do if they were NOT trying to show that Carl was thinking about shooting his dad. It seems to me like they set it all up since the beginning as Carl liking Shane more than his dad. So, Carl sees Shane dead and his dad standing over him with a bloody knife. Carl's upset. He's carrying a gun. Shane had just told him that he needed to use it. He thinks about shooting his dad for killing Shane... And then Shane turns into a zombie, ending that debate.
I am a little confused about where the conflict is going to go from here. Is it enough that conflict in the group -- and the strongest personalities/characters -- are gone? Herschel was a pretty strong character before he started deferring to Rick. Lori doesn't have any reason for internal conflict anymore. Glen is a pretty tame character... I like him, but he goes with the group. The blond girl isn't strong enough to get a following of her own.
It seems like the show almost has to go in the direction of conflict with another group of survivors. They are going to have their showdown with that group of walkers who will probably overrun the farmhouse and then my guess is they'll be forced back on the run.
This revelation about everyone being infected should change some things. Has it been established that getting bitten accelerates death? I'm trying to think if anyone has been bit and survived.
i dont believe anyone has survived a bite, but i believe dr. jenner mentioned that the transformation time is different for everybody. i.e jim the mechanic in season 1 vs shane.
it would seem that they will fight it out at the farm in the finale, who knows what will happen. but as far as conflict goes, they've hired a guy to play the govenor in season 3, so they will probably meet up with another group of people who have this tyrannical guy in charge, per the comics
