For the uninitiated, the Prada store in Marfa is a conceptual art joke.

Chupacabra, however, is REAL and sucks goat blood.

But Marfa is still cool because it has strange lights.

Oh, you're initiated. I still haven't been out to Marfa, although it's on my top list of places to visit, because it's about an 8 hour car ride from Austin. Giant and No Country for Old Men were filmed there.Hungary Jack wrote:But Marfa is still cool because it has strange lights.
I want to see the famous lights, but I've read the expert reports that basically explain them as something pretty mundane: headlights from distant vehicles.

That's what I heard about the lights too. I worked with a guy at Stanford, Jerry Porras, whose family once owned the ranch where Giant was filmed. He laughed when I asked about the lights.heyzeus wrote:Oh, you're initiated. The trans-Pecos is a great part of the country, IMO. If you go, stay a night or two at the Gage Hotel in Marathon, and then wander down to Big Bend (beware of mountain lions). The hike up to the summit of Emory Peak is worth it (nice scramble at the end).
