It's pretty funny; 'If there's one thing I hate, it's losing. If there's two things I hate it's losing and getting cancer.' But mostly I just want Kenny Powers to get shot several times and then run over. I feel like in theory I could buy into this, but I'm struggling so far. It's my second try with the show.

Haha, that was good. But yeah, the show looks underwhelming overall.

I watched it. The celebrities being monsters bit plays really stale and tired. Warwick is the LP love child of David Brent and Andy Millman, it's him doing a Ricky Gervais impression. There's funny stuff in every episode, but Gervais and Merchant need some ideas. They're looking pretty one note when it comes to telvision these days.

Ricky Gervais has been almost insufferable for the past year or so. It's been odd to see someone who was funny because he made fun of arrogant people who lack self awareness and celebrities become an arrogant celebrity.

Anyone watching The River? I watched the premier last night - it had a few good moments. Enough that I'll continue watching.

I don't know whether he's arrogant or not. He certainly plays arrogant in a self-deprecating way every time he has a cameo in someone else's show. If he has become one in his personal life it's sad but not all that surprising I guess. For me he's become insufferable because he's no longer funny. As saigon mentioned he hasn't had a new idea since season 1 of Extras. Instead he seems to have doubled down on being abrasive and obnoxious. An Idiot Abroad is great television, I'll give him that, but he isn't really in it.

I've watched the first two episodes (the first three are up on Hulu). I thought it was awful. The dialogue, the uber-contrived reality show within a reality show/found footage premise, the fact that they are supposedly in Brazil yet speak Spanish to villagers in one scene, etc., etc. In one scene the son will be screaming that they shouldn't be there and should never have come then in literally the next scene he will be saying they should press on. It's a cluster you-know-what so far. The writing and editing to make sure the viewers can follow the plot, which is not complicated to begin with, are so dumbed down at times that it's both cringe-worthy and insulting to the viewer's intelligence. Basically I hate it and it's terrible, truly stupid television. And yet I'll probably keep watching because it's set in the Amazon on a boat and there's crazy tribes and magic involved and I love that [expletive] and always have. How thoroughly they've managed to bungle it so far is almost impressive though.

Between The River and Alcatraz the various networks are striking out big time in their attempts to make the next Lost.

Were you talking about the Valentine's episode? Because I just watched that and it was astonishingly bad. I've come to accept that The Simpsons is a pretty good show again, but man can they release a clunker now and then.

It's a Lisa episode. But I thought the Homer and Bart stuff was hilarious. I guess it was really just the first several minutes and the Homer stuff. But I had a lot of good laughs.

I thought of many of the points you made here, then I thought back to how ridiculous the first couple of episodes of Lost seemed at the time (polar bears on a tropical island) and that turned out pretty good. I'm not saying The River is, or will be anywhere as good, but I'm going to give it a shot. Although Lost had characters that were engaging from the start. We'll see how it plays out...at least it's a semi-fresh idea for a TV show.
