Oh, gotcha. What about the problem of my checked bags though? I can't bring them through security. I'd have to check them with the other airline, then somehow get them back before getting on the United flight.

The Facebook thread has been bumped so far down now that I don't think they're policing it anymore. I wrote a letter in response to the letter I received from Customer Relations but I haven't heard back yet. I doubt I'm going to win this one. I thought making a fuss on their Facebook wall was going to be my trump card but they don't seem to give a [expletive] about that.

Any suggestions?

Can you file a lawsuit? 1K is a lot of $$ to be [expletive] out of....and if you were there on time and had no way of checking in, I fail to see how that is your fault..

You could try taking them to small claims court. Then serve them in some remote area that likely won't get back to headquarters in time. If they don't show you win automatically.

This makes it difficult for them to get proper notice of the claim. Plus the amount is small enough that, if they did get proper notice, there's a good chance they would just settle. Having a lawyer take care of the claim would cost more than 1 grand.

especially when 10,000 frequency flyer miles doesn't do jack...and they probably expire at the end of 2011
