FWIW, a third touchdown was dropped in the endzone towards the end of the game.Leroy wrote:I give Timmy a lot of credit for the second touchdown. He opened up space with his feet and found the guy. On the first touchdown though, that corner or whatever looked like a moron. I know I only played backyard and nine man football, but I always thought that the rule was to stay close to a receiver, not run away from him.

That's just a silly article to get page views and sell advertising. The truly frightening thing is the poll halfway through the article.stlouie_lipp wrote:This is what gets people worked up over the whole Tebow thang.

Which is weird cuz I just read this article that said 70% of FoxSports NFL readers suffer from severe mental impairments.longhornbaseball wrote:That's just a silly article to get page views and sell advertising. Tebow is running a different offense than the guys in the NFL are used to defending against. But, give Rex Ryan or any other astute coach a couple cracks at it and they'll adjust and find a way to defend against the new schemes/offense. Once that happens, it'll be copied and the gig will be up.vinsanity wrote:Not sure where you guys are on Gregg Easterbrook/TMQ but he had this to say that I thought made a lot of sense:JL21 wrote:Not trying to troll or Joey Bomb anyone, but I thought this Tebow article was pretty interesting. Some organization called Cold Hard Football Facts, which seems to be a Prospectus for football, says Tebow's success is justified and that everyone's looking at the wrong numbersI think what they're saying in the SI article rings true. No matter how he's doing it, he is getting it done. But much like a John Gall or John Rodriguez in baseball, I think it's working because it's 'unexpected' thus far. Kind of like the Titans in 09 when they went from a pocket passing QB (Collins) to the more fleet of foot Vince Young and finished 8-2 behind him then started 5-5 in 2010. I won't be surprised when he gets figured out and drops from 5-1. But at this point he looks like he can keep from turning it over and be serviceable. At San Diego, Tebow enthusiastically ran out the other way each time he handed off, just as a high school quarterback would. The Bolts were so rattled that by the second half, a man was going with Tebow when he ran out empty-handed. Late in the third quarter, Denver faced third-and-5. Tebow was flushed from the pocket and rolled left. San Diego linebacker Travis LaBoy slammed to a stop at the line of scrimmage and didn't pursue Tebow, so worried was he about losing contain. Tebow threw for a first down, and Broncos High School recorded a field goal on the possession. The cheerleaders should have done push-ups!
Now that defensive coordinators have film of Tebow running the offense seen on Friday nights, its effectiveness is likely to decline. But until then -- hey kids, don't miss the next Broncos High School game! Buy some baked goods to support the drum line! Vote for our team to be featured on local access cable! See you at the car-hop drive-in afterward!
I have no idea if this is accurate. Just found it interesting that it was the same point vins guy he quoted was making.
This completely ignores the fact that Tebow also intends to adjust and improve, not just the defensive coordinators.

Right, soc, but the argument (not mine but I'll take it and play devils advocate) is that Tebow can only run a certain offense and it isn't your prototypical NFL offense (according to Ditka and Vins guy he quoted). And, the point Tebow is a 'system qb' is nothing new. June Jones of Hawaii (now SMU) recognized it back in college. Tebow can improve all he wants, but he'll have to become something he's never been as the system/offense he runs will eventually be sniffed out. Tebow can improve, sure. But, if I understand correctly, the question is can he change?
I think it's neat to watch. The Broncos score is all I look for Monday morning if I don't see it Sunday night. Hope it works out. Now, I'm just curious if it will.

Sunday's game was pretty prototypical NFL quarterbacking, really. Tebow only ran the ball 4 times. You might say he only threw 15 times, but that's how John Fox has always run his offense, not just for Tebow. Fox has always been a run first and play great defense coach. He's not really building THAT philosophy around Tebow. Tebow showed that he can stand in the pocket and throw the ball downfield, and do it well. Will he do that every single week? Well, there's no guarantee...... but he showed that he can do it.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Right, soc, but the argument (not mine but I'll take it and play devils advocate) is that Tebow can only run a certain offense and it isn't your prototypical NFL offense (according to Ditka and Vins guy he quoted). At what point to the skeptics admit that maybe he "can" play quarterback in the NLF? That's not a rhetorical question, it's a real question. When does the "test" end? I agree taht he hasn't completely proven it yet, but I think he's already accomplished more as a quarterback than many of the skeptics said he would.

Ha. I have no idea. As an outsider looking in, I'd say the test ends whenever elway starts trusting Tebow.

That's a terrific point. He's probably the guy that knows these things better than anyone. If he's not on board, it's hard to get others on board.
In his press conference today, there were signs that Elway may be buckling his stance a little bit:
That's a start......"very pleased he is hitting the receivers that are open ... and making plays scrambling around "
"I'm very happy with (Tim Tebow's play). The whole staff is very happy and the team is very happy."
"It gives us the confidence to know that if we do get in a shootout, we can keep up."
"It goes to show you what a weapon (Tebow) is...If they shut down his legs, he can beat them with his arm.
"That's going to be a relationship that you're going to see continue to grow, between Tim and Demaryius."

80ish of his 200 yards were YAC. A dump-off followed by a 45 yard run does not convince me he can play quarterback in the NFL. When does the "test" end...I dunno. Maybe when I see his completion percentage get above 60% and see him consistently and effectively throw down field. Any quarterback can have a good win/loss record for half a year with a defense playing as good as Denver's has in the last 6-7 games; especially against mediocre (at best) teams.Socnorb11 wrote:Sunday's game was pretty prototypical NFL quarterbacking, really. In fairness, that one play against Minn late, where Tebow scrambled bought time, and drew the linebackers in to tackle him - that is why that guy was so wide open and had about 45 yards of YAC.stlouie_lipp wrote:80ish of his 200 yards were YAC. I agree, it will get harder for the Broncos. It reminds me of the Dolphins when they went wildcat a few years ago. It caught teams offguard, took some talent to pull it off, but it only took them so far.
