Anyone try the new Magic Hat seasonal winter black lager, Winter-Howl? It's now on tap at one of my favorite local bars - very solid.

My beer aficionado friend has been raving about the Shiner Holiday Cheer for 24 hours now. Something about a distinct taste of pecans and a tiny hint of peach that doesn't turn it fruity but smooths everything out.

Gonna have to try that (if I can find it here).

I think I just found my new favorite beer. At 9.8%, it's got quite the punch. Ommegang Three Philosophers - I've only seen it in the giant 22 oz bottles.

I'm seriously considering buying a few bottles and packing them on the plane with me when I fly home this weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday.

I think Brewery Ommegang has leapfrogged Boulevard and Schlafly as my favorite microbrewery. I've yet to find a beer there that I truly dislike. The only beer they brew that I'm not a huge fan of is their Belgian Pale Ale (and I've hashed out my dislike of Pale Ales in general on here many many times), but the Belgian style in the pale ale makes it sweeter and therefore more tolerable than traditional pale ales or IPAs.

At 9.8% you could pick up a couple and cellar them for a year or two and let awesome things happen.

I've had it. It sucks. Like jl's buddy said ... pecans, peach. Add cinnamon too. 'Nuff said.

We have it at our joint. Not many customers are going for it so far, as we have Flying Dog's K-9 winter ale and that's selling like crazy. I like it more than Guinness's black lager, but not as much as New Belgium's 1554. But that's most likely because 1554 was my go-to pool hall beer for the last couple years.

Their Rare Vos amber ale is so, so awesome. Smooth enough to have more than three, but enough flavor to keep enjoying. We have 22 taps, and Rare Vos is the one I recommend to anyone without a specific style of beer request. 3 Philosophers is pretty badass too, and is one of our better selling crafts. Nom nom nom now I'm thirsty.

Yeah, Rare Vos is damn good. We had Hennepin for a while, which was replaced by the Belgian Pale Ale for like a week or two until the Winter-Howl was available from Magic Hat. Rare Vos was added a few months ago and is still one of my faves - it's the only Ommegang beer available right now at my favorite watering hole.

I'd recommend Hennepin, Witte, and Duvell if you haven't had them yet.

I've been drinking the [expletive] out of Boulevard's Nutcracker Ale this year. I'm not a huge fan of most of their offerings, but I like this seasonal.

I was at Nick's Pub drinking $3 granma and $2 budweisers recently, and noticed through the haze that they had most of the lineup from maybe a half-dozen Missouri breweries on tap. 2nd Shift, Schlafly, Urban Chestnut, Ferguson etc. and probably 50+ beers on tap at this point. If you go in the early evening it won't be wall-to-wall douchebags and you can try a bunch of local beer.

Nutcracker Ale is by far my favorite Boulevard offering.

Not a big fan of Saranac's winter seasonal - Season's Best. I bought a six pack a week or two ago, and still have a couple bottles left... Not sure if I'll get through them before I leave this weekend or not.
