Re: The Video Game Thread
I got Skyrim Friday. Had a gift card ready to throw down, plus Target had a $10 gift card as part of the deal.
Haven't played much yet, but it's pretty much Oblivion with nicer graphics. Which is fine with me. Combat is a little better. Not a fan of the menus though. Oblivion was a little uninspired with the whole browned parchment look, but at least it was clear. The Perks/Level up screen is now an arrangment of stars with a backdrop of nebulas. It's pretty but kind of hard to read.
I hadn't mentioned it yet, but I got the new Deus Ex a few weeks back and I think it's a little overrated. Feels like a lot of games cobbled together, though in a good way. Nothing earth shattering about it though, and the AI is not good at all. If you hide, they will not come after you. You're supposed to hide any bodies you kill, but all that happens is that after you kill a guy his comrades go [expletive] for a few minutes and then they say "well, if he comes back then we'll get him."
Also, Deus Ex has introduced a revolutionary new concept in air duct design. Apparently you can just have a duct that runs from one office to another, and that satisfies any cooling and heating needs you might have. Forget tying it into a centralized system. This is 2027.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I'm still wondering whether to bother with Skyrim. The other Elder Scrolls games have been good for little spurts of enjoyment, but I've never been much of a fan of the games. With the big dragons, Skyrim might have something to finally draw me in, but I'd either have to upgrade my video card (And probably power supply) or put up with load times and worse graphics by buying it for 360. I don't know that I can upgrade my computer without having to deal with a lot more sound from it, and it's already too loud for my tastes.

If you weren't into Morrowind or Oblivion, I don't think you'd enjoy Skyrim. The dragon fights don't look like some otherworldly awesome thing, just a neat new enemy to fight. I bought it, but haven't bothered to play yet. I still need to beat Oblivion, and my old graphics card is super underpowered.
My radeon 6950 should be here by Thursday. I am drooling.

I've now seen two PC vs Console flame wars in looking up info on Skyrim. I can't believe people are still having these or Mac/PC arguments.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I keep hearing my friends race on about Skyrim, I may pull the trigger on it down the road but as of right now I can't be bothered with it. I liked Oblivion but I didn't love it, so I'm a bit hesitant. Plus I'm still putting in tons of Forza 4 time and I've only played two hours of BF3 online.

Halo Anniversary arrives tomorrow.
Assassin's Creed is in the mail from Gamefly.
Then Zelda.
Skyrim is sitting there waiting to be started after I finish up those.
