Yeah the Guinness Black is fine. Its more similar to Smithwicks than Guinness (obviously, since its not a stout). Milder finish than New Belgiums 1554, the only other black lager I've had many times. Keeping the Guinness name is good business wise, but I am not sure how many casual beer types will understand that a dark lager is much differentfrom a nitrogen-heavy Irish stout. It'd be like Budweiser coming out with an ale. Oh wait, that happened and no one cared.

Ironically, the cub fans at NSBB didn't like it. perhaps too bitter.

Touche Freed.

And Mac, now that you're in NY, try Saranac's Black Lager. I'd also recommend anything from Ommegang brewery, the local micro brewery in Cooperstown. Their Old Abbey Ale is excellent, and like 9.0%.

I haven't thought about the Saranac brewery in a very long time. I had their Adirondack Lager waaaaay back when I was 19 or 20 or something.

I've got a couple Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale's in my fridge, as well as a couple Guinness Black Lager's left over from Sunday night. If I go to my traditional watering hole, then it will likely be pints of either Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale or Ithaca Nut Brown.

During postseason games, I always drink at least one beer from our friends at Anheuser Busch. Tomorrow that probably means Shock Top Belgian White.
