I honestly assumed that it was Jesse's fault- the kid was trying out smoking, found the "cigarette", and poisoned himself. The Walt angle is one I didn't even think about until I came here.
[SHOW]
I was thinking about this last night...hasn't Walt said the ricin takes a day or two to kick in? Jesse insists he had the cigarette with him that morning which would be somewhere between 6-12 hours before Brock ends up in the hospital. I suppose it could be faster acting for a child?

Plus, someone else had mentioned a few things. If it was a glass vial it's not likely that it would have burned and even if it was plastic it'd be hard to take a drag on it since it filled up the width of the cigarette.

Also, why did Brock's mom and grandmother not want to see Jesse at all? The grandmother I understand, but when he shows up at the ICU after meeting with Walt, the girlfriend didn't seem happy to see him. It flies in the face of my previous time frame issue, but I suppose she could be upset/cautious of Jesse if it was really ricin poisoning.

As far Walt, it seems awfully sloppy if so. He has to convince Saul to have Huel swap out Jesse's pack (because otherwise he'd have to find the flipped cig, pop it out and then repocket it in a matter of seconds), assume that Jesse won't notice the cig is missing until after the kid gets sick, assume Jesse will immediately blame him and not Gus, come to 'talk' to Walt. Walt knowing that Jesse is there to blame him intentionally leave the gun behind for Jesse to pick up and point at Walt while giving the best acting performance of his life (he's not that convincing of a liar) to turn Jesse.

First scene of next week:
Jesse returns home to find he had the wrong pack of smokes the entire time.

Breaking Bad:
[SHOW]
Vince Gilligan has always said that this show is about how far a seemingly good man can go when he has nothing to lose and then how much further he'll go when he has everything to lose. For those of you who don't think it's in Walt to poison the kid, he's done this before. Jane dead, yo. Also, a few of you have pointed out how in the past, we've never not seen a main character when they're getting up to some monkey business. I think this makes it more likely that he did it. The show wants us speculating, debating etc. They also have a track record of leaving the big reveals for as late into the season as possible. I think we'll find out this Sunday in the season finale that he did it, that when he looked for the money in the crawl space and realized his plan B wasn't there, he snapped. The descent of a good man into evil, which is the entire premise of this show, has finally happened. The last season will be Walt v Jesse and Walt and Skylar hiding his true identity from Hank. Gus Fring gonna get got. Who knows if Gus not getting in the car was anything more than him just wanting to go back and say something to Jesse before he gets in?

I guess what I'm saying is that I have no real evidence to believe Walt poisoned the kid other than how I interpret what the creator has said about his show's main character and how much they focused on Walt making a point of saying Gus is always two steps ahead of him to Jesse. I think Walt is finally willing to do whatever it takes to get out from under the constant threat of Gus and is going to use all of his considerable intellect to go head-to-head with Gus.

I haven't started watching Breaking Bad yet (it's on the list), but I thought the lead had cancer and was going through chemo. Where does he find the energy to do all this stuff? Is that kind of a suspension of disbelief thing, or is the phyisical weakness addressed on the show?

But:
[SHOW]
They showed Walt letting Jane die. It's not like the show shies away from things like that. I don't put it past Walt, I just don't see the purpose in hiding it other than to artificially build tension and I think the show is better than that. It would be more interesting to me if this all happens over something that's basically imagined. They made a point of showing Jesse not being allowed in, so I don't think we know if poisoning is even confirmed. It does seem odd to me that Walt was missing for a lot of the episode (sort of, they estabished that he was waiting), but I don't think it makes sense. It works for that episode, but not well for the show as a whole IMO.

He's been in remission for a long while, or at least we think so. The show held the results of his last scan back from everyone except Walt. There is also a huge variation in how real people respond to chemo BTW. There are people who are quite functional while undergoing chemo.

Prepare to be humbled by my "average meth production by cancer stage" chart. It's not ready yet, just prepare.

You're cheating. Probably using illegal cartel cooks at home. That's why your production is outside of the accepted p value away from home.

I could definitely see it as a step in Walt's negative evolutionary chain, but I think the Jane thing was quite a bit different. It was very passive by comparison to this.

The consequences to not acting v acting are very different. He turns Jane over, Jesse leaves and they take the money (consequently, he fails the audition with Gus which could save his life in the long run).
[SHOW]
If he doesn't turn Jesse against Gus, he and his whole family are murdered. Poisoning a child is more drastic, sure, but so is what is at stake.
Anyone else been thinking about what they'd do? If it was your only chance to save your family, would you poison an innocent child?
