And you know what? It's [expletive] delicious.
I hate my part of town. It's not the greatest part of town so it's basically Old Milwaukee, Domestic Light with pallets of Busch/Keystone/High Life floating around. I can't find good beer like this. I'm jealous your liquor stores care such a fine selection of tasty beverages.

Fortunately we have some pretty good local breweries nearby, Sun King and Flat 12. Sun King makes a great Scottish Ale called "Wee Mac". Love that [expletive].

Well not really stopped, but a fairly dramatic drop in consumption.
I still like Michelob and Budweiser sort of, but no longer love.

I thought the big brewers would do a better job with bringing other products to market.Or at least buying out the schafly type larger brewers. So many of the best craft brewers (including New Glarus' brewmaster) honed their craft at AB. A friend of mine says they experiment making good stuff down at AB that never hits their marketing propaganda machine. they just can't bring it or commit to it. The ones they do are the likes of bud light lime and bud55..

Personally I hope ABinbev doesn't figure this new market out and just sticks to their normal stuff. the freewheeling crafters are contributing to the common good.
ABInbev bought Goose Island for just this reason.

Mich has been a dead brand for years. I bet the latest dive comes on the heels of a brief surge after the tried to resurrect Michelob. Bud has been losing ground to Bud Light since forever. Was a bit surprised by the Bud Select news but I guess after the introduction people who drank it realized it was pretty tasteless.

Any, this could all be bad news for the STL.

Oh, and Florian Kupflent from Urban Chestnut was an AB guy.

AB has been involved in selling beers that appear to be microbrews for a long time, to the point they even use different company names on the labels such as "product of Green Valley Brewing Co."

True but that stuff didn't really appeal to microbrew fans. There were many other examples: Icehouse, Red Dog, Blue Moon

They did (do?) have an arrangement with/ownership share in Red Hook from way back.

Leinenkugels is another.

I agree, the only people mega brewers are fooling with faux microbrews are budlight lime drinkers - in spite of the distributer clout over liquor aisle shelf frontage, and bar beer coolers.

I can just imagine the distributor vendor trying to pimp the Red Hook products onto their store/bar owners -"take these 20 cases of Red Hook, and Summer Shandy off my hands, or your not getting any Founders this month." Again, that is how I imagine it works, -if any GRBer in the beer world can verify, I'd be curious.

The Goose Island purchase is a more serious attempt at making inroads - but the only people they will fool there are Cub fans.

I don't like much of anything Goose Island produces.

Leinie's is owned by SABMiller.

Miller bought Leinenkugel in 1988. It's a little different in that it wasn't a brand that was created by one of the major brewers in the way that Landshark and some others were. Leinenkugel has been around forever and had a ton of their own products before being bought by Miller. And I believe through most of the 90's, Miller let Leinie's maintain a great deal of their autonomy. But that's changed in the last 10 years or so.

Basically, it's not a case of Miller-SAB trying to dupe craft beer drinkers into buying their own crappy product (like AB does with Landshark) so much as it's Miller-SAB trying to tap into the brand name and loyalty of Leinie's, and take it to a larger market. Unfortunately, that's given them more say in the product and it has suffered. Ergo Leinie's flood of crap like Summer Shandy and Sunset Wheat.
