Apparently, George Lucas added this crap to the Return of the Jedi Blu-Ray.

omfg. I can't stand it enough that Hayden is the glowie at the end of ROTJ for the DVDs either. Maybe if he had shorter hair and had had been digitally aged it would make sense, but... come on.Arthur Dent wrote:Apparently, George Lucas added this crap to the Return of the Jedi Blu-Ray.

And if Vader is screaming when he grabs the Emperor he should have his voice all electronically broken and distorted, since its implied his suit's systems get fried from the electricity. It just doesn't work. If you want to fix something fix the Nooooooo in the prequels that has been lambasted for sounding absolutely ridiculous, not the other way around.
Plus he tips the Emperor off by saying the first "No," which should startle the Emperor into breaking his gaze. The whole point is Emperor is so focused on using his dark energy on Luke he neglects to feel the light side of the force building in Vader. From the Emperor's point of view, he's tormenting Luke then suddenly being picked off his feet and thrown into a reactor. It is a foreshadow of Luke's "Your overconfidence is your weakness" coming back to end him, whereas the rebuttal of "Your faith in your friends is yours" was not a weakness, but Luke's asset fulfilled through placing trust in his father. This ruins the element of surprise, and should give the Emperor time to react to Vader's deceit and force push Vader across the room. The whole reason he never went all crazy Sith Master on Vader was because it came out of nowhere. You can't tell me someone smart enough to take over the entire galaxy wouldn't be tipped off to a blatant, verbal, expression of feelings to even refocus his gaze for half a second towards Vader. If he did, he would easily sense the light side of the force and that Vader was feeling the exact same emotions towards Luke that he felt towards Padme when he previously yelled Noo. Such a tip-off, such a scene breaker. I have a major problem with this.
Lucas post 1995 is the same as Tony LaRussa post 2010. They've both lost their grasp on what previously made them great.

Re: The Official WTF Thread
Sometime in the 90s, Lucas had a stroke in whatever part of the brain controls artistic integrity.
We all need to just not buy this. The godawful prequels made like $2.5 billion just at the box office. It's too easy for Lucas to dismiss criticism as knee-jerk petulance and overreaction when we all give him our money anyway.
I guess we need to cleanse the world of the kind of morons who actually enjoy this crap too, to be sure that he gets the message.
