He recently said he doesn't plan on even starting book 6 until next year sometime. For a guy whose heart has a limited number of beats left that decreases with every cheeseburger he eats, that's disappointing.
I just read an interview, it was in Time or Entertainment Weekly, that said he's all ready got a lot of book 6 completed. He said the "Beginning is done".
I think he pumps the books out alot sooner than 5 years each. I bet the last 2 will be out w/in 5 years total.

He's got Hollywood money pushing him to do so.

he's giving out conflicting quotes, then. Given his history in that regard after a Feast for Crows, I'll assume the worst.

Finished ADWD.

Very disappointed. So much buildup. So little payoff. 950 pages of "get ready for book 6!" This woulda been fine, if book 4 hadnt been 800 pages of "Dont worry, you'll love book 5, promise!"

There is no way the HBO series will be filmable past, oh, season 3 at best.

I finished Great Expectations yesterday. What a great book. And I think the melodrama and happy endings of Dickens are good for my cynical heart.

The Lost City of Z.

This is the type of book I tend to like - non-fiction, historical with some tangents and present day meanderings - but still has a story line.

An amazing tale. The Amazon sounds like a hostile environment and a scary-ass place (or at least used to be). Every living thing under constant attack and in survival mode. The book is not unflawed though -

Yeah, the author rekindles interest in an amazing explorer (fawcett) and unsolved mysteries of the amazon, yet author leads you to believe he has a conclusion to mysteries of the tale, but he doesn't. just a lot of loose ends that he pretended he could tie up.

Am enjoying the heck out of William Least-Heat Moon's classic "Blue Highways"

I am guessing this road trip musing occurred in the late 70s - but it still holds up.

Remember that bike ride I took to Alaska in '88? Greatly inspired by Least Heat Moon.

/pretty sure he did his trip earlier in the 80s

FWIW- he took off in 1978 at age 38.

Any other of his books you'd recommend?
