I know less about soccer than anyone, but I didn't see it as a choke job. I did watch the whole match (that's what you call it right?). I saw it more as a ton of opportunities that weren't capitalized on early.

It would have been nice for the US to win, but heck, second in the world is not bad.

On another note, I also believe that the 'Japan really needed this' is just as bad as whatever patriotism talk is about the US. Unless I missed something and their winning brought back some 25,000 people from the dead.

I didn't like Foudy or Darke. I don't know why we feel all soccer announcers have to be from England in this country. It puts me off. I listen to the Timbers radio shows, and when our tv/radio play-by-play guy (a 26 year-old Oregon guy) interviews the opposing teams game-caller there almost all British. edit--this last sentence is wrong, I just did a little research. I just happened to hear the British guys from Seattle, Toronto, and KC in a short span.

Most of the British guys call a good game, don't get me wrong there. I just think it's weak. There are Americans with the knowledge and ability. We're trying to build the American brand of National and club soccer...

It bothers me more than perhaps it should, but I find it lame.

It definitely was a choke. Not only were they by far the more experienced, more talented team, but you're right, they missed a ton of opportunities that they shouldn't have. And then the penalties...I've never seen a team look that rattled to start a penalty kick shootout. They should have won, but they lost. That's a choke.

Size is a big factor, too. Wambach looked like Greg Oden (in that 30 seconds he played before he blew out his knee) out there. That's a huge advantage in front of the goal on both ends.
