Watched Game of Thrones 1-4 last week, and love it. Started reading the book, but I'll stop once I'm caught up to where the shows are. Not sure how I'll get the rest, but I'll find some way. Great casting all around. Peter Dinklage needs an Emmy. It's nice that there hasn't been any attempt to try and manufacture cheesy thrilling action sequences for no reason. It's taking it's time, but it still goes by too fast.

Also (spoilers) watched the Falling Skies pilot online last night and was pleasantly surprised. There's a lot of cliches, but like Walking Dead I think it's a genre that deserved a TV show more than another movie. In movies there's no time to dwell on minutiae and seemingly mundane events, but that's often the stuff I'm most curious about. A few things felt forced - the crustiness of the old Army vet, the outlaw gang and it's conveniently likeable leader, and also the skateboard scene (which still more or less worked). I thought it was odd that once again not only are the white characters in charge with people of other races in bit parts, but they actually called attention to it with the scene at the outlaw's place. Not sure how the child slave story is going to work, and also I'm unclear how they're able to travel in large numbers so successfully. Still I found it pretty captivating.

I see comments on the plot holes, but it's a story about humans surviving an aggressive alien invasion. I think no plot holes means no plot.

just ordered season 1 of "The Walking Dead" in bluray off Amazon for $23

I've never seen the show, but I know a lot of people like it and I particularly like the zombie genre (no matter how cliche it might be now).

the first episode, in my opinion, is absolutely amazing. the rest of the series is good/solid, but that first episode is so great.

Can't wait for Breaking Bad to return. Just read a piece about it in the NY Times Magazine and thought the following bit was interesting in light of what we've all had to say about The Killing.
Cranston reads each episode about a week in advance so that these bumps can be smoothed over before it’s time to start shooting. When he can’t resolve the issue with the writer on the set that week, a call is placed to Gilligan, who is usually in the writer’s room in Burbank. “It’s up to them, but I won’t bend unless I’m convinced it’s the right thing to do,” Cranston says. “Convince me and I’ll do it. I have a theory — our job isn’t to lie to the audience, our job is to find the truth in the character. If we lie, we’re giving the audience a little pinch of poison. They won’t even know they ingested it. But if you lie again and again and again, all of a sudden, your audience is going, ‘This isn’t working for me.’ They just feel sick, and they turn you off.”
