Rave: First Trip to Vegas
So some old college friends of mine are getting a chance to hang out again in a couple of weeks in LA where one of them just earned his doctorate in Biology at UCLA, and not only is it my first trip to LA, but we're also doing a one day skirmish to Vegas. I had no clue it was only about a 5 hour or so drive from there. We managed to get a deluxe room at the MGM grand for less than a hundred for the night due to it being in the middle of the week, which is also sweet.
Vegas, baby! Totally stoked. Ideas, suggestions, can't miss places? All advice welcomed.
And yes, I'll beware of roofies and Mike Tyson.

Do some crazy [expletive] and then come here and post about it. Or get [expletive] faced and naked and sing show tunes in your hotel room.

I wish I could understand the draw of that city, but I can't.

Be prepared to walk. Just because that casino looks like a short walk doesn't mean it is. Stay in the touristy areas, that town can get scary within a block or two of the strip.
If your gambling, you're drinkin' for free...but tip your waitress or she'll never come back again.
There are some world class restaurants there too.
Don't be afraid to hit them up for some comps if your gambling. The economy has hit hard out there (so I've heard) and they just might be willing to give away some good stuff.

Holy jeez, yes. This especially sucked when swagged out in a suit and dress shoes, drunkenly stumbling back to the hotel from a club at 4 am. (I ended up falling asleep on the floor of the 18th floor lobby of the wrong hotel.)Hudler wrote:Be prepared to walk. Just because that casino looks like a short walk doesn't mean it is.

Re: Rave: First Trip to Vegas
On one of my wife & I trips to Vegas we devised a day call Tour de Casino. We probably started around 10am down at the Luxor & worked our way down to the Wynn (I think that's the one). Our goal was to attempt to have a drink/beer at each casino.
Of course we weren't able to keep that pace, but we typically would just walk from casino to casino w/ a 24oz bud light lime that we've picked up at one of the prob 100 ABC stores on the strip. They are actually pretty refreshing in the 105 degree heat (we were there in august).
We ended up our trip probably around 9pm, drunk, tired, and sore as [expletive] from walking so much but it was a f'ing blast!

just remember this simple line, "YOU CAN'T ARREST ALL OF US!" and then run after saying it.
It got me out of a jam there.
