None of those games have a yearly release cycle (except sports), which means they have more changes.

L.A. Noire is repetitive and boring.

I haven't tried it out yet, but I was worried about the boring part. Seems like more of an interactive movie that's a lot longer than 2 hours...and if I'm going to get wrapped up in a story that long it better be good.

Get case from head detective.
Drive to scene of crime. Err, make partner drive by holding down triangle/Y. Particularly annoying/boring.
Pick of objects. Rotate them around and look for names/brands. Inspect bodies. Also particularly boring, repetitive and annoying.
Talk to coroner/witnesses. Get an ID. Boring, repetitive and annoying.
Go to victim's place of residence. Redirects you to...
Go to bar/store/seedy place. Talk to people. Leads you to...
Go talk to some more people. Then you...
Chase a person. Box/shoot person. Repetitive but kinda fun. To...
Get congratulated. Then promoted.
Seems like a lot to do but it's not. It's busy work. To "Find clues" you walk around in circles until your controller vibrates or the game makes a bell ring. The "interrogation" system sucks and gets old after 2 interrogations. It's not a "thinking man's game." It's not fun. It's [expletive] terrible. The combat is boring. The story is subpar. The incredible voiceovers is the only redeemable aspect of the game.

Story is awesome, gameplay is innovative, I've played and beat it thrice. I guess there should be more running over dead hookers and shooting old ladies with shotguns.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I thought the story was well-written for a while and then just went "clunk" at the end (which I'll talk about in the spoiler tags below). I was willing to forgive a lot of the gameplay elements that weren't the smoothest in the world just because of how innovative the game was trying to be. That's a genre-igniting (or resurrecting, depending on how you look at it) game, and I'm hoping it leads to a revival of the adventure game. It's high-time for more games to be made that aren't first-person shooters.PujolJunkie wrote:Story is awesome, gameplay is innovative, I've played and beat it thrice. My beefs with it aside, I really enjoyed it. Also helps that for a Rockstar game, it's pretty easy to Platinum it.

That's it all right.PujolJunkie wrote:I guess there should be more running over dead hookers and shooting old ladies with shotguns.
How is picking up objects and turning them and waiting for a vibration "innovative"? I guess it entertained me the first time...5 bottles, shoes, pencils later and it's annoying. Staring at animated faces and "guessing" if they're lying when the animation makes it blatantly obvious? Walking in circles waiting for an in-game trigger to show you a clue? That's the entire game.
Its linear, boring and repetitive. It doesn't make you think very hard, it isn't exhilarating, it isn't competitive. It reminds me why I quit buying video games for a while.

It's like playing in a movie. If the movie were played 10 times straight and the only changes from movie to movie were character names and locales while the plot, pacing and characterization all stayed the same.clevername wrote:I haven't tried it out yet, but I was worried about the boring part. And the city is HUGE. You can free roam. Literally roam aimlessly and do nothing. You can't interact with people or enter buildings or anything entertaining. It's a waste. The time they spent making this elaborate city to do nothing in could've been used to make combat, investigating or interrogating better.
Rockstar tried to keep the sandbox feel in an ultimately linear game and compromised the final product.

I think if I had the game I'd share 2nd Timer's opinion. I get bored watching my roommate play it. If they make a zombie add-on, maybe I'll get it, because that huge of a city with zombies, guns and cars could be pretty cool.
