Big12 coaches all come from Illinois.

So you're saying that he was motivated by money AND other things, but still didn't want the Missouri job?
That's a remarkably poor trolling effort from you.
My point is that if it's a lateral move, and he was offered more money and other motivation, then why would he stay at Purdue?

Edit: Maybe it would help if you would stop beating around the bush and just say what you think his motivation was, rather than trying to be dramatic.

It's not a secret, there was a litany of articles talking about how Painter was upset at the administration's stinginess with the program. How he lost assistants to worse programs over their pay, how he had to plead just to get a grad assistant that other programs have without question, how his extension negotations last year were contentious. Mizzou offered him those things in addition to a raise, and it's pretty clear he was close to accepting, and then Purdue made him an offer that met or exceeded Mizzou's in those areas, so he decided to stay at Purdue.

OK. I wasn't aware that Purdue had made concessions on those areas. That makes some sense.

Anyway, moving on.

I don't get the notion that finding a destination coach should be a factor. There's so much money and other things at play with coaches now that the iconic program builder doesn't really exist anymore. All of the coaches that fit that description are already at top 20 programs and/or their dream job. Painter and Stevens are about the only guys that you could really say are that quality already among the candidates mentioned. The rest of the candidates being tossed out there are unknowns. They could have a lot of success and end up staying at Mizzou for a long time. They could have moderate success like Anderson and stay or leave for any number of reasons. Or they could bomb like Quinn. It's a lot of luck and guesswork and the idea that you would set out to to find that elite coach that is never going to leave is kind of an oxymoron. You find the coach that gives you the best chance to win in the next 3-5 years and the rest takes care of itself. Who cares if it's another coach whose end game is going to his alma mater dream job? You're still winning in the meantime and raising the profile of the program for the next guy.

Tubby Smith? Tim Floyd? Steve Alford? Why?

I think I'd rather have Kim Anderson.

Got confirmation that the University of Miami's Frank Haith has agreed to be Missouri's basketball coach.
[expletive].

He's only been to the tournament one in 7 seasons at Miami and has a 40-63 record in the ACC.

Steve Alford would look brilliant by comparison.

I guess Haith was the lead recruiter who brought Daniel Gibson and LaMarcus Aldridge to Texas. That's about the only positive I can find. Completely uninspired and uninspiring pick.
