Why doesn't Mizzou go after Anthony Grant? That dude can flat out coach.

I'm guessing the next coach will be Ben Jacobsen. No info, but that's my guess.

Bernie wrote:I am embarrassed and I apologize

I have been busy at Busch Stadium and this is the first chance I've had to write this post.

No excuses from me. I had what I believed to be very solid info from someone that has been 100 percent correct in the flow of information, at least up to now. And I went with it. Never said it was official, but I clearly gave everyone the impression that Matt Painter would be the next MU coach. And I fully believed that it would happen.

Well, wrong. So I have to wear it. Any criticism of me is justified. If I have lost credibility in your eyes, I deserve that. I have always taken pride in my reporting and in getting things right and I don't worry about being "first." But I trusted the information and proceeded with it. And I embarrassed myself and this news organization in the process.

I apologize to everyone, but especially those of you who put your trust in me. I am very sorry for letting you down. And I can assure you that I will work even harder and more diligently in the future to avoid this kind of failure again.

And thanks to those of you who already have conveyed your support on Twitter. I don't deserve it, but I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. You have no idea. I hope I can repair my credibility over time.

Thank you.

He's owning it.
That's pretty [expletive] awesome. Good for him.
Yes, very impressive. No credibility repair needed from my standpoint.

Well, Jacobsen's name will at least surface in a Columbia and Cedar Falls newspapers tomorrow. By Friday, he should expect to double his salary at UNI.

Who spread mayonaise on Bernie's words to make him eat them so fast?

shot us in the foot. I believe Painter wanted to know how much he could trust our Athletic Department. I believe he called and said he was taking the position but wanted to talk to his team before it came out. Before he could have his team meeting, Bernie had announced it to the world. Painter said to himself, "these guys are no different than here, why leave!" and then took back his commitment. Thats my opinion of what happened.

Bernie, in his quest to be the "first" made a fool of himself. His credibility is now a joke. Lets not forget Bernie breaking the news of Anderson turning down Arkansas!! Not only that but he got our hopes up just to be let down by other, real journalists. Sad part is Ive always been a BM supporter and thought he was good. I was wrong.

No shot. He makes 600K now, and there's no way UNI can afford to pay him $1.2 mil. That is a school that had to drop baseball recently, and has an insane budget crunch.

If Mizzou wants Jacobsen, they'll get him.

They still should go after Anthony Grant from Alabama.

I'd rather Grant than Jacobson.

RE: Bernie shooting anyone in the foot, I'd always gotten the impression that the source was someone at Purdue or close to Painter, not Mizzou.

If Painter flaked because a journalist reported he was interested in the job, he wasn't the right guy for the job to begin with (not saying this is the case, but I can't believe someone actually thought this).

DAMMIT

I like Grant a lot, but I'm not sure he would want to leave Bama. They are about to win the NIT and have pretty much everyone back next year plus a couple big time recruits. He already makes 1.8 million and has a clause that his contract will be renegotiated after next year. He's from the South and is building a winning program at a school that is crazy about sports in a fairly weak conference. There's not much Mizzou can offer him that he doesn't already have.
