It's Slaten so I'm not sure it's worth much if at all, but he says Matt Painter of Purdue is interested.

Bernie says he reported the Painter rumor prior to Slaten.MrCrowesGarden wrote:It's Slaten so I'm not sure it's worth much if at all, but he says Matt Painter of Purdue is interested.

(ignore everything else I said in there but not being able to understand why people would be happy about it)Of course, the Mizzou fan base is a very weird one and I'm sure there will be plenty of people out there who'll be happy if he leaves. Those people are pretty [expletive] stupid.
a) This isn't even close to a death knell for the program (not that anyone here has said so, but it deserves to be pointed out). Even if, say, Flip Pressey transfers to Arkansas, there's going to be a decent dose of talent left in the cupboard, followed by a huge chance for a new coach to put his imprint on the program (several scholarships are open after next season).
b) Mike Anderson is going to Arkansas- more or less his dream job, presumably. The place where he's had the most professional success. Closer to home. The place where he worked for 17 years. And he's getting paid more money to go do so. More power to him, and thank you for bringing the program back from garbage. It's kind of ridiculous for fans to get angry about him taking that offer. It would've been great for him to stay and all, but you can't fault someone in that situation.
c) Anderson scored Pressey and Tony Mitchell, each very highly-recruited players. This year, it seems like he (would have gotten) Porter at least. Let alone the fact that his style of ball doesn't need top-level recruits to succeed; it just needs a lot of average ones. The top shelf guys would've taken the program to the next level.
d) His agent is Jimmy Sexton, notorious for brokering exactly these type of deals.
e) They were an 11 seed this season but it took a collapse down the stretch for that to happen. They were a pre-season top 25 and stayed in the top 25 for the bulk of the year. Prior to that, the program had taken steps forward every single year- even last year when he lost his two and arguably three best players to graduation, and still took them to the tournament in a rebuilding year.
What a goofy fan base we are.

Sounds like CMA snuck out of the arena without addressing the media. Not cool.

Re: Mizzou 2010 Hoops
I agree with most of what you said here. I'm not worried about the future of the program at all as long as they find a good replacement. Mizzou is an attractive job even if the new coach runs a completely different style. Arkansas seems at best like a lateral move to me, but if that's where he wants to be then more power to him. Honestly the only thing that bothered me was how it took almost a week to play out with no comment from him or communication with his players. I think a lot of fans believed him when he said he wanted to be there for life or whatever and are disappointed he's just like every other coach chasing the money. Personally, I respect his decision and I appreciate what he did for the program. I still wish we kept him. But I don't agree with how he handled the whole thing. It reminds me of the Lebron thing on a smaller scale. He knew he was going to Arkansas all along.JL21 wrote: a) This isn't even close to a death knell for the program (not that anyone here has said so, but it deserves to be pointed out). Pressey is an NBA type talent if he continues to develop. And that kind of talent can play in any system. I'm not so sure he's leaving and sitting out a year. Getting a coach that can keep him and get Porter or someone else right away would be awesome.
Some guy on the radio mentioned Bruce Pearl as a possible replacement. I almost had to pull over to puke.

I agree that it might've been handled better.

Re: Mizzou 2010 Hoops
Glad that we're rid of Jimmy Sexton. What a complete scumbag.
Anderson leaving is sad news. Fortunately, if a new coach can move quickly on the class of 2012, it is a very good situation to come into.
As far as coaching preferences go, I like Mack from Xavier and Mooney from Richmond. Not as keen on Martin or Smart from VCU. Goofs like Pearl, Alford, etc. need not apply. Matt Painter is not coming here.
