I had a "good" ending, but the game never explains why Ethan was waking up with the origami figures in his hands, etc. It's a huge plot point that the game completely ignores.
Or how about when the old lady tells Madison who the killer is (Shelby), she gasps. She doesn't even know who Shelby is.
Also, a lot of Shelby's internal monologue made no sense since he was the killer.

Some of that confusion comes from the fact that the game wants you to think that it's Ethan who is the Origami Killer for a while and yet he doesn't actually know it, a la Memento. He had to lose time here and there, and considering all of the [expletive] he's going through with the trials, it makes sense to me at least that he wasn't getting any sleep for days on end (much like Madison). The mind can construct all sorts of weird things when sleeplessness is involved).
Madison hadn't met Shelby by that point? My memory might be failing me. Anyway, I figured that overdramatic "gasp" was just a murder mystery cliche'. She might have thought it was Ethan who did it before that and then finding out it wasn't shocked her. It's a reach, but it follows that that could be a natural reaction. She may not have met Shelby by then but she knew of him, I'm pretty sure.
Much of Shelby's internal monologue is to prolong the mystery, but most of it makes sense, especially if you complete the "Perfect Crime" story loop for him. In the end, he's pretty screwed up: for all we know it might have made perfect sense to him that he was pursung the origami killer all the time in his mind. These kind of delusions aren't that uncommon, people tend to project their problems onto everyone else.
I personally don't believe that, really. It was clearly set up that way just to confuse the player. All of his spoken dialogue makes sense, at least. And I like how it matches up most all of the details. Pulling that off in a game where there are so many possibilities as far as the actual storyline plays out is pretty impressive.
A little bit of a copout? Maybe. But I still loved how they pulled it off. I figured out it was Shelby pretty quickly (the club fight with Jayden and the trench-coated, somewhat heavy-set mystery person, heh) but the game definitely had me guessing for a while.
My 10 cents, anyway. Love the game. Still working on the Platinum Trophy for it.

Yes, but to just have that major plot point and then not to address it in the end was a cheap gimmick. I felt like the rug had been pulled out from underneath me. I mean, Ethan was making the exact same origami designs as the killer. How is that possible?
The gasp was a cheap gimmick too.
Also, Shelby's motivations as the killer were really lame.
For a game so focused on plot I surprised how awful the ending was. If they had made the ending better, it could have been my game of the year.
Finally picked up Mass Effect 2 for PS3... sweet game. Cool hybrid of an action RPG, plus a healthy dose of "Choose Your Own Adventure." This one's going to get a lot of replay.
