Thrill and I are having a really civil NBA discussion. Nobody is trying to win anything. I'm not even sure what you are referring to. Have you even read the thread, or are you just randomly throwing out derogatory posts??

I'm just trying to not think about baseball and elbows.

Thornton (gone)
Mayo (Grizzlies won't lose him unless it's a winning trade for them)
Lee (Houston is insisting on Asik, which the Bulls won't part with)
Hamilton (no one really thinks the Pistons will buy out his 25 million left)
Affalo (Nuggets won't trade one of their best assets)
Smith (Nuggets might buy this guy out, though he's the one I want the least of these 6)
I'd really love to add Kirk Hinrich to this list but I haven't heard any indication Washington would deal him back.

Sorcnorb "Here's my opinion on Utah's coaching change."
Thrill "Here are 10 articles that refute your opinion"
Sorcnorb "I didn't read those, but my opinion hasn't changed."
That said, I apologize, I wasn't trying to offend you. You're just one tough cookie to convince.
Thrill, I do have to disagree with you on one thing, though. I don't think Devin Harris and Favors + 2 picks on a bad draft class is a good return at all for Williams. The Nets go out and get a better player than Anthony for less than they were going to pay for him. I think the Nuggets did a good job of getting talent back, when it was clear pretty much all year that Carmelo only wanted to sign an extension with the Knicks.
To summarize: The Russian Billionaire did very well. The Knicks apparently were goin for the wrong guy the whole time!

They apparently loved Favors before last year's draft, Harris is a guy that can put up numbers on a bad team which is what they are and really, is there a better deal to be had out there? I don't know that there is.
I'm a little curious what their plan is in the front court. They've got Jefferson, Milsap, Kirilenko and Favors all kind of occupying the 4.
If Harris can actually play for more than 60 or so games a season, he could regain his very nice 08-09 form. If that happens, I agree that it's a better deal. I can't really strongly comment on Favors, I have only seen one Nets game this year, and he looked totally lost in the limited minutes I saw him on the court. So I'm mostly going off of realgm posters' opinions, which are generally pretty negative.
But, ya, you're right that if both of those guys play to their potential, it's a nice return for Williams, who definitely wasn't resigning there. I expected him to be traded over the off season, I guess - this was just shockingly fast.
I really have always disliked the Knicks, so I'm pretty happy. Yesterday, there were reports that Williams was outright saying he wanted to be a Knick in 2012. Now he's on their rival, and the Knicks are stuck with a lesser (but still top 10ish) player that they paid more for. It could work out for everyone in 2012 if the Knicks get Chris Paul and his knees hold up, and the Brooklyn Nets attract a kick-ass big.
/edit Oh and regarding the Jazz, ya they've got to move one of those guys, right? I wonder if the Bulls could swoop in, trade 2 picks to the Jazz, Jazz send a big to Houston, and we get Lee. I'll have to go play with a trade checker to see what other filler would have to be worked in.

Did you not read the part where I said that the point that thrill was trying to make was likely true?
JR Smith seems like he'd be a real good fit for Chicago, and I wouldn't be surprised if he could be had from Denver. He can score points in bunches, and actually isn't a bad defender. He's known to have some mental lapses from time to time......... but he's tamed down a bit over the last couple of years.
Ah, NBA trade deadline. Even more fun than the MLB one, simply because teams are smaller and much more directly impacted by a trade. I can't even refresh realgm/yahoo/espn/twitter searches fast enough to keep track of all this awesome.
Current entertainment is early reports that Williams did not want this trade, had no idea it was going to happen, and will not sign an extension with the Nets. Which I could believe - the dude leaves a playoff team that was definitely 'his' to go to a 17 win team 30 miles away from the team he actually wants. Ouch!
Specific to bulls rumormongering: Houston wants to do Lee + Hill for Asik, Charlottes 1st, Miami 1st. Pretty stiff price. Memphis still wants Thabeet to go with any Mayo package, which is super gross and icky. Do not want Thabeet. Want Mayo only. Make happen. Maclowery caveman now.
I still can't fathom why New Jersey would give up THAT package simply to rent Deron Williams. What's the point? Now they'll win 32 games instead of 28 games?
