1. He was never an option for Donovan.
2. Never seen an official MLB pitch.
3. If Cards believe in JJ…should they extend him?

To answer #3, I think the answer is a resounding yes.

Jon Heyman says the Cardinals are working on extending JJ. Not sure how far talks have gone or how reliable his sources are.

If true, definitely a shift in strategy from MO to Bloom. Would be an encouraging change.

Mo locked up a bunch of young guys on long term contracts?

I don’t think JJ situation compares to Craig, Dejong, or Wong.

1. JJ’s upside is greater than all three combined.
2. They were in the middle of arbitration years. JJ has 5 games, Colt zero.
3. Their extensions didn't go over what 25-35min? JJ’s will be closer to 75-90min.

Not apples to apples at all. This would be a shift in philosophy.

They haven’t paid anyone since Sonny Gray. Refusing to spend money is the shift in strategy.

Pujols might be a better comp

On February 19, 2004, the St. Louis Cardinals signed Albert Pujols to a seven-year, $100 million contract extension with an eighth-year club option, extending his stay through 2011. Coming off three stellar seasons, this deal was historic, marking the largest contract for a player with only three years of MLB experience at the time.

Not that JJ is Pujols but it is a time when the team was willing to extend a player with less service time.

With DeJong they bought out some of his arb years and they tried to do that with a few players.

But this would be a departure to the most recent history of young players. But that might have to do with the lack of high upside seen in many of the young players.

Then you’d be talking about only a few contracts in the history of the game ever

So it would be a change in philosophy not just for us, but everyone, so seems silly to bring Mo up

Perhaps you can look at Atlanta for some comps? They had locked up a few guys early, like Asuna for example.
