Because being bombarded with roadside signage while taking a leisurely Sunday drive isn’t enough, Ford has patented a new system that uses a vehicle’s cameras to detect billboards and then pull them up on a car’s infotainment display as inescapable in-vehicle advertisements.

The system would also intelligently analyze the content of the billboard and generate hyperlinks, either for easily dialing a posted phone number, or for bringing up a company’s website to see additional information.

yeah, that won't be distracting while trying to drive?! an ad popping up on your screen while driving?

I will flip the hell out if you can't disable that.

Car companies are already offering "subscription services" for features the car has built in. Say you have a nice touch screen infotainment, but you want gps, that will cost you extra even though it's built in. It amazes me anyone would pay for that. As long as people are suckers the car companies will keep doing this stuff.

Just wait until you have to watch a short ad before starting your car.

Isn't that the deal with Teslas? IIRC you can pay extra for longer battery range. But all the cars have the same battery. You're just paying for them to unlock the limiter in the programming that limits you to a lesser range.

Cars now have wireless Apple Car Play/Android Auto. Is that just a software update away for older models? I have a 2020 so assuming it would be capable of this.
