Rant: Dobbs adverts
Maybe it's because I've seen them so damn much, but I hate them. Three adverts.
First up - the paedophile
The guy who, for some reason, hangs out with a bunch of kids on his lunch break, and looks sort of goofy, like his co-workers know what sort of a guy he is but still don't alert the authorities. This advert has been taken out of the rotation, for some reason.
Second - the stupid woman
"I've never looked forward to buying tires" - that's because you're a normal person and normal people hate buying tires! Who enjoys that [expletive]?
Third - the doofus who can tell what sort of engine it is from the sound
It's A [expletive] ADVERT! Of course he's going to get them all right! Are we supposed to be impressed that a jobbing actor can read his [expletive] lines? [expletive] YOU FOREVER
I am much less likely to use them now. Dobbs you bastards!

Not a fan of the Carrolton Bank commercials-especially the one with the big meathead- Russ? "I meet with the customers and listen to them and yeah ... (sound drifts off as it gets nonsensical). "

Is the "in, up, fix, out" still in the rotation?
That and the car horns playing Take Me Out to the Ballgame are the only two Dobbs ads I remember.

Also the two sons who are trying to get their mom to pick who gets to sell her tires.
It is funny how the six-figure marketing geniuses who came up with the commercial about the woman who didn't used to enjoy buying tires thought the Dobbs experience was a good selling point. I've never been to Dobbs, but I imagine it's like any other mechanical/tire shop.

The guy guessing the engines is the one that annoys me the most by far. That is just the dumbest thing ever. I could have gotten all of those right and I'm no mechanic. My dad is a mechanic so I've spent a lot of time around cars but good lord is that commercial insultingly stupid.
As for the six figure marketing geniuses, a guy I went to high school in in marketing and the first firm he worked for did quite a few terrible commercials. That was actually kind of their thing and some people went to them for that. They probably went to them because they were likely the only agency willing to take a hit on their reputation with people wanting to do real commercials in exchange for putting out garbage.
Those commercials with Buckley (I think that was the dog's name) for the buy here, pay here car lot... that was them. And the car lot insisted on doing the commercials that way. They didn't like doing the terrible commercials but if that's what the customer wanted then that's what they got regardless of the other ideas that the agency came up with.
The boat show was one of their customers and I think one year he was actually in charge of booking the water skiing squirrel.

Dobbs is the biggest ripoff chain auto repair shop out there.

Wasn't there one where they all stopped for some song, take me out to the ball game, or the national anthem, something then as soon as it was over they all go back to work at a ferocious pace. Yeah I'd never shop at Dobbs.

They are mostly car repair. About 25 years ago they got nabbed for tax evasion. It was a sizable sum. Which makes you wonder how many unneccessarry cabin filters and rotors turned were done to pay the tab.IMADreamer wrote: Yeah I'd never shop at Dobbs.
I knew a guy who said that if he died, his only post-mortem wish would be that his wife didnt take their cars to Dobbs. Oddly, I still used them for car maintenance/repair for a # of years. It was close by.
