When I was a kid I loved the crap out of the JC Penny catalog. It had Star Wars toys and ladies in underpants. It was great.

Anyway, we moved recently and the people who owned our current place before us got every catalog under the sun and they're still flooding in. Six of them today. Like a thing called Charles Tyrwhitt that apparently only makes dress shirts and neckties. Garnet Hill--"Delight by design", whatever that means...it apparently means throw blankets and a lot of different decorative pillows plus some cashmere stuff for women. Places that make furniture that would only work for your home if your home is Barn Chic. A bunch of crap catalogs for kids (it was bad enough the 2nd bedroom was painted in a Little Mermaid motif that I had to take care of on moving in.) Basically, a bunch of [expletive] I don't want.

Is there a way to make this stop, or do I have to just deal with having 37lbs more recycling to carry out every week? If there is a 800 number you can call to make all catalogs stop forever (except maybe the ones that have ladies in undies, I haven't grown up that much) this would turn from rant to rave.

The catalog people are relentless. I ordered some thank you cards or something like that from an online stationery site before our wedding, got several catalogs a year from that company for years, even though I moved no less than 4 times. I tried to find a way to stop it on their website and the closest I got was like a form from 1994 that didn't work. My latest cross country move appears to have left them in the dust, knock on wood.

I have been using this this free service https://www.catalogchoice.org/ for a few years. IIRC - GRB/Hungary Jack recommended it*.

It is supposed to handle the opt-out of various catalogs. It seems to work - decrease the volume of catalogs -at least temporarily. Though I am probably due again to collect a pile of unwanted catalogs and enter my opt-out. Except for Athleta.

I checked out Catalog Choice, but I have to put my info in, with email and stuff. My question for those who use it: can I use it to stop catalogs coming for someone who is not me?

You can stop catalogs addressed to other names. Almost all of our catalogs come addressed to my wife and kids - so I just put their names on that opt-out.

Edit -Yep. just checked - You need to opt-out using the name on the mailing label. Even though our name is spelled wrong or some catalogs come addressed to "current resident".

I have 9 name variations set up.

If your old enough you'll remember the Sears Wish Book, a catalog that came out about three months before Christmas, and it was full of nothing but toys, toys, TOYS! As a kid you'd spend three months before Christmas making a list and checking it a hundred times.
