NCAA Hockey
Minnesota beat North Dakota on a last second goal last night in the Frozen Four.

These two were huge conference rivals until MN joined the new Big Ten hockey league this year. Lots of rabid hockey fans in these parts.

Re: NCAA Hockey
I know this post is like 10 days late, but I forgot there were college hockey fans on here. Anyway, as an alum of tiny Union College I went to the Championship Game in Philly and it was incredible. Lots of alumni turned out to support the school. Just for a frame of reference, there are half as many living alumni from Union College as there current students for Minnesota. So to see a big Union College crowd was great to see. The game was sooo exciting, fast paced, made watching the NHL playoffs look much slower. I picked Union as a school knowing/assuming that I would never have the chance to see big-time athletics, but I was pleasantly surprised. They have come a long way from when I used to do color commentary for a team that had never even won a single conference tournament game.

Re: NCAA Hockey
Definitely a fantastic story, esp since these days MN is a perennial title contender. I'm only a casual fan but want to make it a point to go to more Gopher hockey games. The women are fantastic and it's still pretty easy to get tickets to see them. The men's games can be a tough ticket - esp when they play North Dakota and Minn-Duluth and the other MN state schools.

Wisconsin has lost 7 in a row to start the season, 8 in a row if you include being upset in the first round of the tournament last year. The coach won the NCAA title in 2006 and hasn't done a good enough job since, but fans and bloggers defend him. It's unbelievable. I've been banned from jsonline, Madison.com and buckys5thquarter for complaining.

I'm a St. Louis transplant from Madison. When I left WI I just assumed, quite fairly, that the Badgers were eternally unbeatable. Since I don't follow college hockey anymore I had no idea they've fallen on hard times. What a shame.slide_into_first wrote:Wisconsin has lost 7 in a row to start the season, 8 in a row if you include being upset in the first round of the tournament last year.
