National Signing Day Thread

I didn't see one. Maybe it isn't necessary. But I'd like to start one if only to bring attention to this story.
Ladies and gentlemen, consider Reuben Foster. Considered by many one of the top linebacker recruits in the nation, Foster, who had committed to Alabama, changed his mind and committed to Auburn in July of last year.

He then doubled down on that decision by getting a massive Auburn tattoo on his right forearm.

Auburn proceeded to have one of the worst seasons in the history of their program. They went 3-9. They were winless in conference play, 0-8. They lost their last three conference games by a score of 150-21. They lost to Alabama 49-0, and it could have been 70-0, as the starters scored seven touchdowns in seven possessions before Saban benched them.

Cue Foster, giant tattoo and all, decommitting from Auburn and recommitting to Alabama.

Good thread idea. Wisconsin had a good recruiting class but lost a couple of highly touteds after the coaching change, they seem to have made up the losses with some under the radar players who were uncommitted, and then got a verbal yesterday from a juco qb, Tanner Mcevoy.

Is this gonna double as our NSD thread?

Might as well.
Is it bad if I'm way more excited about national signing day than I am the Super Bowl or pretty much anything that happens in the NFL? It's like Christmas morning, seeing whether or not you got that toy you wanted or a [expletive] pair of socks.
I highly doubt Mizzou pulls in Ezekiel Elliott but I'm still excited for the slim chance. It'd be a great get for them, one they could use after losing a few 4-star dudes to K-State and Nebraska.

Being a Tennessee fan is really wearing thin on me.
Especially after seeing ole miss climb to a top 5 team and auburn pulling the 5 star commits after an abysmal season and coaching change.
I don't even feel like following this [expletive] anymore. Same [expletive] different year.

A lot of these recruits aren't ranked properly...we're talking about high schoolers. Yeah, what they've done is an indication of what they are capable of, but [expletive]. Trying to project what a 17 year old kid will be able to do in 2-3 years is....inexact. Look at the mlb draft for the bust rate of guys that teams thought were worth a million dollars or so. It's high.
That said. There's of course relevance to it. Obviously getting 320 lb guys to fill up your lines is nice. Getting Cam Newton or Russel Wilson or whoever is meaningful.
And, there are coaches who can do more with less. Pinkel is one of those guys. Petrino is another one. They'll take a top 50 recruiting class and turn them into a top 25 team, or a top 25 recruiting class to a top 5 team. Mizzou being ranked 40th, or whateer, doesn't really bother me....their style still does, but I digress
There are also coaches who can do less with more. I'd say Lane Kiffin is one of these guys. Brown and possibly Stoops as well (don't know what their recruiting classes have been lately, but seems they always underperform).
So, signing day is neat and all, but I don't get too excited and/or upset about it. Remember last year how pumped everyone was when Mizzou got DGB. And yet it made little to no difference this year and he got suspended. Whaa Wuhh

OTOH, I hate this BS. Good God, these kids already think too highly of themselves. Let's see, what could we possibly do to feed their egos even more.... Live TV Special yessss.

And this. I could do without it all.

Meh... They've already got highly-respected coaches and famous alums and every person in their lives slobbing their knobs. It wouldn't be any different with or without the press coverage of signing day.
I definitely don't get too upset about it, though, for all the reasons you state, AW. I just think it's fun to follow.

I changed the thread title accordingly.
