I think this ranking is very fair. Can't really argue against any of the teams ahead of them for now. If they can beat Kansas and have a few other teams ahead of them lose like ASU and BC, possibly Ohio State to Michigan, then the Big XII title game could be huge.
How amazing has Michigan's recovery from the opening of the season been? Sure, you could argue they should have never lost in the first place but the way they have come back from that is pretty impressive to me.
I don't think Michigan'll beat OSU even at home...regardless - if MU runs the table I think they should be in a title game (Big 10 fan here btw - so this isn't really a homer thing)
Looking at the Current 1-loss teams ahead of them (LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma, WVU) and the unbeatens (OSU, KU, ASU, and BC).
Of the unbeatens everyone is already penciling OSU in. That leaves KU, ASU and BC. If MU runs the table that knocks out KU (and Oklahoma). So we are left with ASU, BC, LSU, Oregon and WVU.
Not really sure BC'll lose and could go undefeated - that's where it gets tricky. But they have tough games against FSU and Miami, at home and travel to Clemson. Could easily lose 1.
ASU - At Oregon, USC at home left on the schedule - If they win out - they deserve a Title Game. I doubt they will. Notable Wins - Cal
LSU - On the road to play the Crimson Tide this weekend, they win this - probably win out. A 1 loss LSU team is MU's worst nightmare in all honesty. Could get hurt in the SEC 'ship game though.
Oregon - ASU and then coast. A win this weekend makes a solid bid for them in a title game. Loss is against Cal - but beat USC.
WVU - Beat Rutgers, but got beat by USF, at Cincy and against UCONN coming up - hardly beat anyone.
Say OSU and BC win out. I think ASU, LSU will probably lose a game. Oregon and WVU win out. If MU wins out, they'll be beating two top 10 teams to do it (unless KU or Oklhahoma lose before). That's more than enough to leap frog them over WVU and probably oregon. They'd probably finish third behind BC. In otherwords - BC's gotta lose for MU to get a shot...unless voters think they are better than BC. It'll be interesting.

As for all of that stuff, to be blunt, I'd be thrilled with a BCS bowl, and I'd be pretty happy with the Cotton Bowl should they make the Big XII championship game and lose. Frankly, a shot at the national title, even if they win out, is not really anywhere near my expectations or even hopes. My wildest hope is a BCS bowl game.
I would be shocked if we win next Saturday. I wouldn't be shocked if we beat USC. UCLA could be tough, and I'm going to that game at the Rose Bowl so it should be a good time.
I think BC will lose at some point in one of the games you mentioned or in the ACC championship to Virginia Tech. I also don't see ASU winning out. Either way if LSU and OSU win out they will be in the title game. Other than those two teams, Mizzou could pass pretty much anyone in the standings with wins over Kansas and Oklahoma. Really though I would be fine with them finishing the season with two losses, both to OU.

I agree that ASU won't win out, but if they do, they will be in the National Championship game. Victories over Cal, Oregon and USC gets an undefeated team into the championship.

That said, there's also a reason Brown was a JuCo guy who rarely played last year, and Mizzou has played 3 safeties on the field quite a bit and has depth in the secondary. Howard or whoever replaces him needs to keep laying people out, it's been a big part of Mizzou's defensive resurgence in conference play as teams have started dropping passes in the 2nd half in fear of the incoming blow.
