Blaine Gabbert to visit Mizzou Saturday
it's on the front page of powermizzou.com. He's making an unofficial visit for the game against the Red Raiders.
Maybe he's backing out of that commitment to Nebraska with the mess going on over there.

He'd be a nice replacement once Daniel graduates.MrCrowesGarden wrote:it's on the front page of powermizzou.com. He's making an unofficial visit for the game against the Red Raiders.

isn't this the guy who got benched?
I know he was hurt, but you have to scratch your head at a star quarterback being benched in high school.

He wasn't benched. West's team is very mediocre this year with little chance of doing anything special. No use in playing the #1 QB prospect when he's hurt.clevername wrote:isn't this the guy who got benched?

Well, the other Blaine (Dalton-a junior from Blue Springs South) committed after the game. Anything can change, but that's definitely good news. He's got to be the top QB from Missouri for his class.

According to PD, he's back on the market.

What is it with Mizzou recruiting like-named QB's? First it was Chase Daniel and Patton. Now it's Blaine Gabbert and Dalton.
I feel bad for Chase Patton. I bet he could start for a ton of D-One programs.

Probably. It's a little funny that Patton was the higher-rated recruit out of high school.RC21 wrote:What is it with Mizzou recruiting like-named QB's? First it was Chase Daniel and Patton. Now it's Blaine Gabbert and Dalton.

I wonder if that will be the case with Dalton and Gabbert -- Gabbert being the higher-rated QB but Dalton taking over.
I don't follow college recruiting that closely, but can someone confirm if it is normal for schools to stockpile so much talent at one position? Will it be necessary to have Gabbert AND Dalton?

It's fairly normal. Notre Dame's got the 2nd best QB recruit in the nation even though they just got Jimmy Claussen last year. While I think it's easier to project football and basketball recruits than baseball because (usually) the more athletic players succeed, they're still very young kids who can have a lot of good or bad things happen in a short time.GatewaySnayke wrote:I wonder if that will be the case with Dalton and Gabbert -- Gabbert being the higher-rated QB but Dalton taking over.

Dalton's also a year behind Gabbert, so their careers won't be in total lock-step with one another. If Gabbert's as impressive as he's supposed to be, he might come in immediately to be Daniel's backup for a year and start as a sophomore (assuming Grooms or Tillman don't win the job). You could then redshirt Dalton and have something like:
2008- Daniel SR, Gabbert FR
2009- Gabbert SO, Dalton RS
2010- Gabbert JR, Dalton FR
2011-Gabbert SR, Dalton SO
2012- Dalton JR
2013- Dalton SR
