A silent, invisible battle is being fought against roadside bombs in Iraq. Though the military doesn't like to advertise their use, electronic jamming systems are playing a key role in neutralizing the threat.
and that goes for CNN and the retired military folks who talked with them. If they're saving lives, we certainly don't want the yahoos who are placing them reading about it on CNN.

The yahoos who are placing these already know what's going on. When you find that your garage door opener, cell phone or whatever triggers aren't working anymore, it's pretty obvious.

the more organized ones do, but we're not really dealing with a cohesive front over there. If it still works 1/3 of the time, it's valuable not to advertise it.

The military obviously feels that the PR value of claiming progress against IEDs is more valuable. The Iraqi insurgents are not well equipped or trained but they are more sophisticated than you suppose. They have their own communication networks inside Iraq that are vastly more effective than watching American cable news in hopes of picking up an occasional tidbit. It's clear that the length of this conflict has allowed fighters to gain valuable experience in the most effective methods to fight our army. We can be certain that this knowledge will be applied elsewhere.
